I suggest starting out with a 2p game to help you get used to the rivers. It's easy to mess up and think territories are connected when they aren't.

Other than that, I am not a capital expert. There are several capitals where the distances between them are quite different, something that I thought was a bad thing. I gave a suggestion for the caps for 7 players to fix that, but like I said: I am not an expert so I find it hard to say something that makes sense regarding the whole thing.
