On the other hand, I really like this new version. Colours are well together, roads are visible exactly right. The only thing that I don't like is that in general, the map misses colour. It is all a bit grey-ish and the whole map now feels like a big industrial area.

Thorpe, on mini-map the number 1 is missing on JFK Airport.

Should "Union City" and it's circle be swapped to better see the connection line?

Should Bronx color be lightened a little to better see roads to match the other road areas?

Should Queens be worth 6 or 7 because the area includes 9 territories?

Not sure about the amount in Queens...anybody?
Union City ...yes
Bronx...yes

Anybody else on any thing?

Not sure about foggy ocean though.

Matty what do you not like on this one?

Hi, sorry about the one line comment :S

Take a look at the last 3 versions (excluding your new one here):
1: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/818/newyorkb.jpg/
2: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/24/newyorkwq.jpg/
3: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/39/newyorko.jpg/

1 is a really nice colour scheme: happy and bright.
Its just that its a bit too bright for the eyes - you shouldnt look to long at it.
2 is alot less bright, alot less 'happy', but still quite good.
3 has a good colour scheme, but it lost all happiness. It looks so dark and grey. The see is, instead of light blue with white lins, just a weird, sad tan of blue.

I know, 1 is a bit unprofessional, bunch of random bright colours put together, but it really has a feeling to the map that the author was happy creating it
The 3rd version has alot more professional colours, but it lost the main thing, which is the feeling the other 2 ones had.

Its a bit with the same thing when pntbttr restarted his colour scheme on europe - it made me think it rained all the time in europe.
He didnt threw away all the colours though, he just adjusted them, and made them look relly nice. So I'll hope you can do that with these colours too.

Now, you already did a nice job with the new ocean. Its not just boring plain tan blue, but it has a good texture and some colour mixers. Could you try something with that on the land as well?
The regions im most worried about are the light blue ones (top and left), because they look alot the same as the sea - always the difficulty with a blue sea.
So yeah, I dont like the new map, but that doesnt mean its bad - it just needs a little tune up i guess :)

Looking forward to more changes!

Love the look, especially the texture. Looks like someone used colored pencils. Nice job.

darken the oceans and lower the opacity on the texture layer a little bit...

Thanks Crystal!

Butters, was willing to get rid of roads in place of a little more texture... though, I could lower it a little, but don't want it plain.

Also, if I darken the ocean a little, it doesn't stand out as much (blends in with blue colors on map) due to the colors not being as bright as before.

Seems like I have 2 choices... bright territories, darker ocean... light ocean, darken territories.

If this thinking is wrong... I need an explanation for better understanding.

good update... right direction.

instead of darkening the color of the ocean try adjusting the color using a gradient shading layer.

take a large black paint brush and paint on a white layer where you want the ocean to be a little darker, then use a gaussian blur >= 50 to make it a gradient. Overlay the layer and lower the opacity.

Nice update

most things are already said.
Im not sure if I like the font changes - its not very good visible on the ocean. Maybe change that first before you can see if its better or worse.
