Again I say, it wouldn't matter if team mates are in the same time zone, if the last player/team to act is in a different time zone many hours apart, that puts the timer zero point out of touch to the other team!
My point on the timer is, as you probably all know, one of the benefits of exploiting same time games is to snatch a full territory for the bonus, just before the timer finishes and then have your team mate start his next round turn immediately to allow you to start your next round turn, whereupon you now have the bonus troops to either reinforce or attack other players.... all this while the other players may be fast asleep as it is 4am in their country!
I also don't like the 4 team Same Time tourney on World Expanded as there can be too much divide between territories leaving some players clear of constant attack and other in the midst of it! This allows certain players to sit back and grow whilst strategising and let the poor souls who are surrounded by the team that snatched bonuses due to their good luck time zone, do all the work to stop the overwhelming growth and expansion.
If they did nothing they would be swallowed up and if they try to break them down they allow another team to outgrow them and the team they are trying to defend against. Therefore, it allows far more advantages to some and disadvantages to others, than a smaller map, but I doubt there would be much room for 8 players on a smaller map!!!
With the benefit of hindsight, Syg and I should have left Green & Black grow to huge proportions quickly and swallow us up, instead of attacking them to stop domination and they would have completely dominated the board in a few turns. This would have proved the time zone advantage, as they were one of the teams that were able to exploit it! Unfortunately some players only see their small part of the game due to many turns happening while they are away from the game and things like this don't really get taken into account for the game viability!
