I tried to add some more elements myself just to see how it could look. It's only a rough draft though, just to render the idea. This can potentially be a very good themed map.

I have been seeing many good historical/cultural themes proposed in the last days.
I know Hoodlum is working on the Berlin Wall map published in his Map Dabble laboratory:
Berlin Wall decaying (click to show)
But I know it requires a special feature of decaying troops. Perhaps the Wall could be rendered as a semi-passable, using the features that we already have: i.e. one way only connections.

Other proposals in place, just to resume a bit and keep them recorded.

Chicago, possibly re-adapted in theme as Chicago Street Gangs. 2 different layouts has been suggested:
Chicago1 (Street gangs) (click to show)
Chicago2 (Street gangs) (click to show)
Navajo Nation (or maybe Navajo Natives?), gameplay probably still needs to be developed, but the idea seems cool.

Both Soviet Union and Berlin Wall refer somehow to the Cold War age. My proposal would have been something including the 2 main powers involved: USA and USSR.
The idea is a map of the Northern Hemisphere: North America, Europe and Asia. There is a gameplay developed by Virtuosity98 corresponding to the area, it would just need to be adapted to the theme.

All suggested themes are interesting for me and potentially very good maps. But we should pick just one to develop at best level. The others will be not refused but at least we should choise one to start from. Whatever the decision, special congrats to Hoodlum for the quantity of interesting proposals he cranks out. I skipped Pangea really, because (even if cool) I cannot see how it could be better than a normal World map: they are just (almost) the same continents, but all clumped together.

I kind of like best the gameplay of northern hemisphere. Don't like the gameplay of Berlin Wall, too many borders everywhere, but still interesting. Also CCCP map seems very interesting, but need some gameplay retouches.

I don't think we should pick just one. We've done more than one map at a time before with good results.

Northern Hemisphere one looks like fun to me, and then we'd have to have a southern hemisphere one! Australasia (NZ), South Africa, Argentina :) but it could be a Rugby War theme! hehe

The southern hemisphere is actually very boring

that's also an interesting layout (bishop take on berlin wall), one way in and out movement. Not too confusing, like that napoleon paper scissors rock one!

Personally I don't think any of the map proposed are totally finalized in gameplay, each one have space for improvement.

The geographical representation also should be kept into account. For example I can see in USSR, 1 river and half disappeared from the middle, I prefer the rivers to stay as they actually are, adding some bridges where needed. If the shape of a river doesn't correspond decently with the territory dividers then it's better (but a bit harder) to cheat the territories instead of cheating the river.

About Northern Hemisphere I would say that the Artic Ocean region is pretty unrealistic. How can any army pass through that iceberg region? This is science fiction. Actually no tanks nor ships can travel the Artic, and for what I know not even airplanes (because of turbolences or magnetic fields, I don't know exactly). This is a delicate point because if the suggested theme is the Cold War, then a passable Artic would result to be particularly anti-historic: I believe if America could attack Moscow through the Artic Ocean probably they would have, but actually they could not.

I must say, I think both the berlin walls and the northern hemisphere cold war map are the most interesting ones. Especially the northern hemisphere actually. It's pretty cool.

The_Bishop, I could easily re-add the full lengths of the river and add bridges, that wouldn't be hard, and I definitely agree about the arctic region....

Okay, thanks Moai. If you have graphic skills you can try also to give the map a better look and a contest like I tried to do myself, but I am not very good at it really!
File size must be 1024 pixels wide. Land and backgorund need to be textured like in all maps we have here.
Territory labels if possible it's better they stay horizontal, I mean up-oriented, and more readable.
What else? Here you can find the circle image for the territories.

Rivers and mountains also need to look better, mountains are especially hard to make unfortunately.
Anyway if you struggle doing something, someone would possibly help you, but at the moment we are just discussing the various proposals in place, so don't get maniac trying to do something you cannot. But if you have graphic skills to show, we'll be happy to see what you can manage to do.
However... making maps it's hard job!!

Do you work with photoshop, right?

The_Bishop, Yes i work with photoshop, I did the first USSR map in illustrator which wasn't a smart Idea, lol

I'll post the nicer looking USSR map here soon

Is there any interested in a Risk map of the Earth based on the Peirce quincuncial projection?
The very centre of the map is the north pole, and works it's way out, with Antarctica split into four quarters on each corner of the map. With Antarctica split, they can be connectors all across the map.

I see a problem with that... NZ wouldn't actually appear on the map... wait! is that a problem actually? :P

Not really a problem, we can also remove Spain, UK, USA, and any other large land mass. (I love sarcasm) ;)
