(Edit) I didn't know Psymon had made a post while I was making this one.
This was suggested by V98 and followed up by Hood.
If this is a map you wish to make for D12, please remember it is, as V98 mentioned, a real geographic location and as such, should have accurate borders, boundaries & names.
There are lots of other things to consider as well, especially in this highly disputed part of the world.
My main concern would be what to call the region?
It is not Indonesia (this is part of it).
It is not South Asia (this is part of it).
It is not Melanesia (New Guinea is part of this).
It is not Micronesia (this is not part of it).
One idea might be the South China Sea (see South China Sea Hydrographic Boundaries below), because most of the countries are connected to this in some way, but this might be too contraversial due to the on going dispute for the Paracel Islands & Spratly Islands, although they are not shown at this altitude of the map.
Here are some resources if you guys want to either take it on as a solo project or if you wish to collaberate (the best way to learn the ropes for Hoodlum). If you decide to collaberate, I will say that it is difficult to have two guys doing graphics. It is better for one to research and direct as well as organise best game-play and the other do the graphics according to the direction. This makes life a lot easier for both and speeds up the map if in good communication.
From what I have found above, it looks like the chosen location might well be okay as a risk map but there are certain things that sort of hinder game play. Some might think these are nice quirky factors, so it's best to see what others think before proceeding with making a Map Creation thread of this location.
Philippines: Beside 2 large land masses, there are a lot of small island groups that make up this country. In the centre of these islands are the 3 large groups Western Visayas, Central Visayas & Eastern Visayas. Notice how the Western Visayas divide an island Between the Cities of Bacolod & Dumaguete.
(See Physical Map)
Malaysia: This is a difficult one due to Western Island Sector having 11 divided territories if we merge the 2 island groups Langkawi & Penang and the Eastern Island Sector having just 2 which are Sarawak & Sabah.
It will be nice to see what the 'suggester' V98 & 'interested party' Hoodlum think of what the task has in store and whether one or both feel they would like to undertake the task?
I will point out mind, that this will be a difficult map compared to most, due to a lot of non playable sea area and large quantity of islands.
