emjaydee, you are right. We have enough maps and diversity to meet most needs so the most important thing now is to focus our attention on the less attractive maps.

I agree with you both, but I assume that there is no problem if we have someone creating a map while we fix the existing maps.

Has anyone thought of creating a map based on this template? Obviously the islands would need dividing into territories.

cool, i've thought that indonesia would make a cool game map, but this is even better. south east asia.

I have actually thought of doing this exact map before but I've never had the time.

I fooled around with an Indonesian map. It's kind of hard to divide it up into regions and territories imo.

But I do like the idea!

Yeah it's tough with all the islands, here is my days attempt. (practising purposes only).

30 territories? I expected something bigger for this map...

All of the regions are quite linear. Vietnam and Phuket should connect to Thailand. Luzon and Visayas should be linked. Indonesia is just a line of territories. There are too many territories that only connect to only one other territory. it's just flawed. Although I like the idea

yup, i just had a go at playing it, and it wasn't fun, but was just practising makin the map from that outline that v98 shared rather than gameplay. Might give someone an idea region wise. Rather than big, I was thinking more along the lines of caribbean. I think there are too many small islands, (for those circle things) territories for it to have a lot of territories but someone more skilled could def pull it off

I agree with Psymon - I envisaged more territories. Something like this?

Indonesia - 39 Territories (click to show)

Yes, I know it looks awful, but I merely wanted to convey where I thought the territories should go.

After having made this I saw Hoodlum's version. I think that Hoodlum's Papua region is way better than mine, so I would take out two territories somewhere else on the map and add two to my Papua region. I also think my map is a tad hyper-connected.

About your graphical map quality Hoodlum, I would say it's fairly good! I like the textures and colours. You need to take care when drawing borders so that they join up exactly. In Cambodia I can see that the lines slightly don't join up in two places. Also, the borders must be less... geographically approximate than you have made them if your map is based on real locations. But I'm sure you rushed this just because it was a practice for you. But if/when you go to make your own map, be more careful with your borders. I love the work you did on this though! :)

Thanks bro. i actually noticed the borders weren't lined up properly in some spots once I started to put the colour fills in, and then very noticeable when I uploaded it here, i was working in a smaller view and missed it. I can easily change it all up though because everything is layered, which is what I'm practising and getting use to, and I'll probably use what you have done as a guide for extra territories to play around with it a bit more. It's also Good learning where these locations are too, but to make a real map, I understand that you would have to be fairly accurate with a lot of things.

"Also, the borders must be less... geographically approximate than you have made them if your map is based on real locations."

yeah i thought so. when comparing my border width (3) as suggested in the map guide, it seems thicker than other d12 maps..

And why not SE Asia 41 terries? I would even add Brunei to make 42. It is weird how Java/Sumatra is divided a lot then Phillipines and West Papua has only big territories...

(Edit) I didn't know Psymon had made a post while I was making this one.

This was suggested by V98 and followed up by Hood.

If this is a map you wish to make for D12, please remember it is, as V98 mentioned, a real geographic location and as such, should have accurate borders, boundaries & names.
There are lots of other things to consider as well, especially in this highly disputed part of the world.
My main concern would be what to call the region?
It is not Indonesia (this is part of it).
It is not South Asia (this is part of it).
It is not Melanesia (New Guinea is part of this).
It is not Micronesia (this is not part of it).
One idea might be the South China Sea (see South China Sea Hydrographic Boundaries below), because most of the countries are connected to this in some way, but this might be too contraversial due to the on going dispute for the Paracel Islands & Spratly Islands, although they are not shown at this altitude of the map.

Here are some resources if you guys want to either take it on as a solo project or if you wish to collaberate (the best way to learn the ropes for Hoodlum). If you decide to collaberate, I will say that it is difficult to have two guys doing graphics. It is better for one to research and direct as well as organise best game-play and the other do the graphics according to the direction. This makes life a lot easier for both and speeds up the map if in good communication.

From what I have found above, it looks like the chosen location might well be okay as a risk map but there are certain things that sort of hinder game play. Some might think these are nice quirky factors, so it's best to see what others think before proceeding with making a Map Creation thread of this location.

Philippines: Beside 2 large land masses, there are a lot of small island groups that make up this country. In the centre of these islands are the 3 large groups Western Visayas, Central Visayas & Eastern Visayas. Notice how the Western Visayas divide an island Between the Cities of Bacolod & Dumaguete.
(See Physical Map)

Malaysia: This is a difficult one due to Western Island Sector having 11 divided territories if we merge the 2 island groups Langkawi & Penang and the Eastern Island Sector having just 2 which are Sarawak & Sabah.

It will be nice to see what the 'suggester' V98 & 'interested party' Hoodlum think of what the task has in store and whether one or both feel they would like to undertake the task?
I will point out mind, that this will be a difficult map compared to most, due to a lot of non playable sea area and large quantity of islands.
