@UltraPlot, regarding your list in which order the mafia would take people out, shouldn't the inspector be first on the list? You don't even mention the inspector in your list...maybe I'm reading your post wrong, this is only my second game.

I've read both arguments about whether or not the inspector should come out right away..., or stay hidden..., or wait for...I am not really sure. I don't pretend to know the right answer, I only wish to discuss the pros and cons;

Here are my thoughts so far;

If the inspector came out, the doctor would be able to protect the inspector. But that means the mafia would know who the inspector was. Does that mean the mafia would waste kill attempts on the inspector because the doctor is protecting him or would the mafia try to take out literally anyone else because they believe the inspector would at that point be protected because he/she came out?

Anyone else care to chime in on this?

Cop is the inspector.

I'm not about to give mafia any strategy tips. I will only say that in most games I've played targeting the doctor is a higher priority than immediately targeting the inspector.
Anyways I'm considerably suspicious about elysium's behavior. However, if he were mafia, why is he basically asking us to reveal strategy tips for them? Either he's genuinely curious, or perhaps there isn't anyone experienced enough on the mafia to answer these questions. I'd say a N0 inspect on ely would be highly warranted and could give us some useful information. I may just be paranoid, seeing as this IS ely's second game, but some of the things OXEN and Stratosphere pulled in their second games went far beyond merely feigning ignorance. Mafia is not a terribly difficult game to master, so I am at least a little wary of ely playing the "I'm new, tell me everything you know" card.

I was reading through info again and I just realized that Ultra didn't leave out the inspector...the cop is the same thing. Ooops.

Care to also enlighten us about why you wanted me to post why mafia should think the way they normally do in the public forum?

I'm not really confused about what the mafia would do. I would assume that they would try to take out the most important players/roles as quickly as possible.

I am also not trying to get anyone to out themselves.

What I am trying to do is ask everyone, because I am sure everyone has a different opinion, on what/who the most important roles are in general and why they think they should come out or remain hidden. General strategy questions, not specific targeting questions.

One last thing, though, If you are 'inspected,' how do you know whether or not it was a real inspection of a fake one? It seemed Cheeky was tricked in our first game? Do you just have to decide if they know based on what they tell you? Is there any way to help you confirm they are actually the inspector or a fake who made a good guess? Obviously, you know they are fake if they tell you you are one thing and it is not true.

who/what the most important roles in general is exactly what the mafia wants to know for their nightkills.

there is no way to confirm they are the inspector.

On the other hand, from all I read, I only agree with the Mayba comment. The only post that make me thing he/she is a plain villager as me.

Ultra, Elysium, you smell Mafia. just smell, but smell.

And finally, if I were mafia, I will for certain try to kill the inspector/cop first. More important to be killed somebody that can reveal your identities than somebody that can save others, even the inspector.

i'm pushing pretty heavily on ely and somehow we're both mafia? fair to suspect either one of us, but both makes absolutely no sense whatsoever

Really Ultra? It does not make sense? I don' t think so, maybe only trying to confuse. If we lynch one of you by the fight of the other, and turns to be mafia, the remaining of you would be free of suspections all the game almost.

it would indeed be very tactically sound for two mafia to decide to draw a lot of attention to themselves on night zero with hardly any other suspicions flying around, especially when there are only three of them and can scarce afford to bus on d1.

At this point in the game you would trust the post stating that we should do the obvious? I'm automatically wary of anyone who I feel is posting for the sake of platitudes rather than actual progress.

The mafia know who they are and who the villagers are. They ultimately have to kill all villagers to win. They want to kill the power people early on if they can, but no one more so than the inspector. Right now they have a 37.5% chance to kill someone of power (3/8) without doing anything and a 100% chance of killing a villager. Whereas we have a 33% chance of killing a mafia or a 66% chance of killing a villager.
