The image opacity is about right now, maybe up a little, but as you can see, when you drop that, the light blue becomes more vibrant and overpowering, so add your texture to that, which also has dark colours in it, but if it's still too bright, use something I call a tone screen... this is a layer above it of pure black and turn down the opacity to about 5% (5% of 100% in Photoshop), this will darken the image, but if it makes the colours dull, use a dark blue instead... play with the colours of the tone screen if you have to in order to get the nicest looking background.

(Edit): sorry there were posts while I was writing.
Vexer is right, it currently looks worse, but I am thinking ahead of what it will look like with the texture.

I think that first B2 you did look amazing. Keep up the awesome work Clarke!!! It's going to be killer!

Thanks Naathim. Here is the next phase. Below you will find 5 images. The first is "B2" above with NO texture. I am only reposting to make it easier to compare since we are on a new page. The other 4 items below it are 4 different textures applied to it. I have one I like more than others, but will keep my opinion secret for now as to not influence the vote. Please note the following, if for any reason you are curious or want to make a suggestion, you will have some info to make the suggestion.

Background image (palm trees & beach) is black & white with opacity 72 out of 255.
Background color layer (on top of image) is Red:0, Green: 160, Blue:202 Opacity 255/255
All textures are black & white with opacity 40/255.

Okay here are the textures we need to select from.

One final note: if you think the color of the blue is different on each image, that is the influence of the texture on the image. I assure you I started each with the same base (the NO TEXTURE image above)

Personally I like the sort of texture of 4. However, I still feel the background image needs less opacity, to let the texture be a little more prominent and maybe a dark blue 5% colour tone screen over it all, to take away the harshness of the light blue.

It appears that you put the opacity of the background image back where it first was, which must have been somewhere around the 72 mark you stated above, I think it looked too transparent when you dropped it on the second version and needed to go up a little and then with the texture, it would have sat nicely blended.

I like texture 2 cause it kind of eliminates that weird cloud thing in the background image.

Aero, I will apply the things you asked for to both Texture 2 and Texture 4. Then we will look at it again.

Okay everyone, here are the "Version 2" of the textures 2 & 4 from my post above from yesterday. Please take a look and advise if we need anymore tweaks or if we want to roll with one of these.

The changes made which make this VERSION 2 is the same to both:
A dark blue (R 0, G 27, B 127) filter with opacity 13/255 (5%) is on top of everything except the islands. Also the background image opacity was dropped from 72 to 50.

I haven't had the chance on commenting on this map lately, but I really like the way it has gone through. My favourite background is v2.2.

Also, I'd like to apologize to Axo, I think I was quite close-minded when writing that message.

I have to say, they both look good as backgrounds, but I still feel the light blue colour is a tiny bit too intense, which will at a later stage cause your land to be too contrasting.

Which ever one you & the community like best, please try the Dark Blue colour screen overlay that I mentioned and only post it, if you think it makes the background look richer and less contrasting with the land, but not so dark as to give the dull / rainy look that the community all remarked about previously.

Believe it or not, on New Zealand, my background solid base colour is a turquoise colour, because this enhanced the (60% opacity) image colours above it making them strong blues, but not too dark, which is what happened when I used a blue base, which means you should play with various colours below & above the background images until you find the one that says to you "yes, that's the one". This can take about 30 minutes to an hour to find the best combination of colours and opacities.
On the new Westeros map, the solid base colour is pure Yellow and the 7% overlay screen is pure Red, sandwiching a blue denim image.

These versions DO have the dark blue color screens. Did you not see this note above:

A dark blue (R 0, G 27, B 127) filter with opacity 13/255 (5%) is on top of everything except the islands.

I hope my tone does not come off ugly, just letting you know I didn't ignore you previously. Shall I up the dark blue to 10%.
