Having spent their first full day in this frightening and confusing crisis, a few truths are beginning to become readily apparent to the inhabitants of the Town:
- All radio and telecommunication technologies are down. Bursts of static and interference are all that can be received or transmitted.
- There is an entirely invisible, undetectable threshold surrounding the Town, unassailably lethal to all that passes through it. Haphazardly strewn cars, birds seemingly swatted to the ground mid-flight, and tree branches half-healthy, half-withered are the only demarcation of the deadly frontier. Makeshift warning signs have sprung up along roads, tracks, and fields alike, warning all to turn back. To everyone's best estimate, the boundary forms a perfect, uninterrupted circle around the Town. No-one is willing to test how high it stretches, or if it can be dug underneath... Strangely enough, people can enter the perimeter without harm, but as a one-way ticket to catastrophe, visitors have completely dried up.
- A feverish desire to uncover the mystery is sweeping the Town. All sorts of theories abound, ranging from alien activity, parallel universes, government experiments, and terrorism. But it's clear to all that that abandoned facility lies at the heart of the mayhem.
