FLAVOUR: (click to show)
In fair Verona where we lay our scene, Lord of Verona Prince Escalus has died mysteriously. The House of Escalus seeks to establish a successor, however the rival Houses of Montague and Capulet each seek to take control of the town and end their bitter feuding once and for all. The citizens of Verona decide to elect a new Lord every day until a clear ruler emerges.
Meanwhile the town falls into anarchy – under cover of their Venetian masks, night-crime is everywhere. A new store has recently opened with questionable products, but fearful or troublemaking customers only dare enter behind their masks.
Every morning, the town assembles unmasked to elect a new Lord, and every afternoon a lynching is held, again unmasked.
Will the Houses of Montague and Capulet be able to co-operate enough to defeat the House of Escalus? And if they succeed, which House will overpower the other and rise to power? Are there other interested parties at play? And what of our pair of star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, who are nowhere to be found? Will their story blossom into joyous harmony, or is acrimony and death their inevitable fate? One thing is certain: there’s only room for one House in fair Verona…

GAME MECHANICS: (click to show)
Based on traditional mafia. However, there are some important differences:
Masks: (click to show)
Firstly, each player is given a Role PM, and a uniquely coloured mask. The mask colour is important, as it will give you anonymity when performing night actions and buying items. Discovering who is under each mask will become a vital part of the strategy of the game.
As a rule of thumb, all actions done in the Forum (elections and lynchings) are unmasked. All actions done via PM are masked (buying from the Shop, Night Actions).

Day Structure: (click to show)
Secondly, each day cycle is split into 3 phases instead of 2.
Morning Phase: (click to show)
• Players #ELECT a Lord of Verona in the forums.
• Players #BUY items from the Store (via PM to the host)

• #USE [an item]
• #RUN FOR ELECTION
• #CHECK HOUSES
• #SWAP MASKS

• #RUN FOR ELECTION

• #SWAP MASKS
At home vs Outside at night: (click to show)
At night, players are outside their houses if they perform a night action (unless the action says "without leaving your house" ).
When leaving the house at night, players may specify how many coins and items they bring with them (via PM to host). If unspecified, players bring half of their coins with them and leave all unneeded items at home by default. Players cannot bring two of the same item with them.

When do I see other players' masks? (click to show)
At night, players see the masks of players they directly interact with (Sword* and Dagger* attacks), and if they stay at home, they see the masks of players who interact with their house (Break ins* and Oil* dousing). Players’ masks may also be seen by Watchmen*.

Positions of Power: (click to show)
You should be aware of 2 positions of power that allow players to earn big money, plus a couple of added benefits:
1. Shopkeeper (assigned at the start of the game):
• Gains 50% of all money spent by players in the Shop (capped at 10 coins per day).
• Records what every masked player buys.
• Buyers see the Shopkeeper’s mask.
• Still pays full price for store items.
• If killed, the Shop goes to the killer.
• If lynched, the Shop goes to the Lord of Verona.
2. Lord of Verona (elected during every morning phase):
• Earns 2 extra coins at the end of every day phase for every other player who voted for them (max 10 coins).
• Their lynch vote is worth two votes.

Elections: (click to show)
Oh, and I should probably explain elections. Each morning, players who chose to #RUN FOR ELECTION the previous night may be voted to be the Lord of Verona. Each election candidate will have chosen an economic regime (Socialist, Centrist, Capitalist) that would be adopted should they be elected. These regimes will have big consequences on the distribution of money, so vote wisely!
• Socialist - all money is redistributed evenly, then players pay 1 coin for every item they own
• Centrist - everyone pays 1 coin
• Capitalist - players receive 1 coin for every 2 items they own

You are Friar Lawrence, Franciscan Friar and friend to Romeo and Juliet.
You are a man of great faith and prayer, and expert in the qualities of plants, both medicinal and harmful. Since hearing of Romeo’s love for Juliet it has been your prayer that the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets would be ended if you were to unite them in holy matrimony. But for now, the priority is to survive long enough to marry Romeo and Juliet once the power struggle is over.
You start with 1 coin.
You earn 1 coin at the end of every afternoon phase.
You can #PRAY for [player name] (without leaving your house) each night. If that player would perform a night action that would culminate in their death or the death of their ally, that night action is cancelled instead.
You can #PREPARE the following items (without leaving your house) once each per game, during the night phase:
- Sleeping Potion: #USE Sleeping Potion on [player name] in the afternoon phase to prevent all of their night actions that night. The player will be announced dead in the following morning phase (without revealing their Role PM), but will wake up and re-enter the game the morning after.
- Herbal Coagulant: #USE Herbal Coagulant on [mask colour] during the night phase to save that player from a stab wound. Retained if unneeded.
- Strawflower Ointment: #USE Strawflower Ointment on [mask colour] during the night phase. From now on, both your house and their house will have a “distinctive smell” reported to players who #CHECK HOUSES.
Win clause: Survive with Romeo and Juliet until the House of Escalus (mafia) is eliminated, or survive until the House of Escalus and hostile neutrals are eliminated.

Players who lose their house due to Oil become homeless. These players are therefore always outside at night, and also cannot carry two of the same item with them. Any actions that would be done to homeless players' houses are done to the homeless player (if applicable, e.g. using wine to #DISTRACT).
Methods: (click to show)
Having put so much effort into creating this game setup, I will actively provide ways for mafia and neutrals to blend in if Town looks for 'cheap' and 'shortcut' methods to detecting scum. For example, Town win clause will be given to all players.
Having said this, there are several ways to find mafia via the game mechanics, such as:
• When attacked by a Sword or Dagger user, remember mask colour. Use Watchmen to find that mask colour’s house.
• Check houses to see who’s not at home.
• Work with Shopkeeper to see which masks are buying what.
• Look for alliances during Elections and Lynchings that may be mafia cooperating.

Based on traditional mafia. However, there are some important differences:
Firstly, each player is given a Role PM, and a uniquely coloured mask. The mask colour is important, as it will give you anonymity when performing night actions and buying items. Discovering who is under each mask will become a vital part of the strategy of the game.
As a rule of thumb, all actions done in the Forum (elections and lynchings) are unmasked. All actions done via PM are masked (buying from the Shop, Night Actions).
1. Red
2. Orange
3. Yellow
4. Lime
5. Dark Green
6. Cyan
7. Blue
8. Purple
9. Pink
10. Black
11. White
12. Grey
13. Brown
14. Beige
15. Peach
16. Olive
17. Teal
18. Magenta
19. Gold
20. Silver

Secondly, each day cycle is split into 3 phases instead of 2.
• Players #ELECT a Lord of Verona in the forums.
• Players #BUY items from the Store (via PM to the host)

• Players #LYNCH a player in the forums.
• Players #BUY items from the Store (via PM to the host)

Players perform 2 night actions out of:
• #USE [an item]
• #RUN FOR ELECTION
• #CHECK HOUSES
• #SWAP MASKS

At night, players are outside their houses if they perform a night action (unless the action says "without leaving your house" ).
When leaving the house at night, players may specify how many coins and items they bring with them (via PM to host). If unspecified, players bring half of their coins with them and leave all unneeded items at home by default. Players cannot bring two of the same item with them.

At night, players see the masks of players they directly interact with (Sword* and Dagger* attacks), and if they stay at home, they see the masks of players who interact with their house (Break ins* and Oil* dousing). Players’ masks may also be seen by Watchmen*.
*See "ITEMS" below for explanations for these terms.

Tennesseelogman - Gold
You are Mercutio, cousin of the late Prince Escalus, brother of Valentine, and a member of the House of Escalus (mafia). Romeo Montague is your best friend.
Noted for your loyalty and quick wit, you are extremely popular. Despite your family ties, you are not interested in House feuds, and therefore you are a neutral. You simply hope that Romeo and Valentine survive this conflict.
You start with 3 coins.
You earn 2 coins at the end of every afternoon phase.
When running for election, your votecount starts at +1.
During lynchings, your votecount starts at -1.
If Romeo would be killed by a Sword, you will be killed instead.
Win clause: Ensure that Romeo and Valentine survive until endgame.

remlburc – Red

Bluegoetz - Teal

Win clause: Eliminate the House of Montague, the House of Capulet, and all hostile neutrals.

You have opened a shop in an attempt to raise the money required to make the long return journey.
You start with 0 coins.
You are the Shopkeeper. You gain 50% of the money spent in the Shop each day (maximum 10 coins).

milnejw24 - Purple
You are Valentine, cousin of the late Prince Escalus, brother of Mercutio, and a member of the House of Escalus (mafia).
Despite your high status as a member of the House of Escalus, you have never been given a chance to prove yourself. You are eager to do so now.
You start with 5 coins and a Dagger.
You earn 2 coins at the end of every afternoon phase.
You may perform as many night actions as you wish each night.
Win clause: Eliminate the House of Montague, the House of Capulet, and all hostile neutrals.

Ready4war – White
You are Old Capulet, cousin of Lord Capulet, and member of the House of Capulet (Town).
You are very old, very rich, and you hate the House of Montague.
You start with 12 coins and a Sword.
You earn 0 coins at the end of every afternoon phase.
If you die, your coins and items are given to another member of the House of Capulet.
You cannot use a Sword to defend yourself from other Sword and Dagger users.
Win clause: Eliminate the House of Escalus (mafia) and all hostile neutrals, while outnumbering the House of Montague.

Rockbert – Cyan
You are Lord Capulet, father of Juliet Capulet, and leader of the House of Capulet (Town).
You are a proud and influential man, and you hate the Montague House. You have seen the death of Prince Escalus as a great opportunity for the House of Capulet to increase its influence… as long as those Montagues don’t get in your way.
You start with 8 coins.
You earn 3 coins at the end of every afternoon phase.
Your vote during elections and lynchings is worth 2 votes.
You can #HOST A MASKED BALL once per game (via PM to host) during the afternoon phase. The next night phase, players will be forced to leave their houses, and will only perform the first night action submitted.
Win clause: Eliminate the House of Escalus (mafia) and all hostile neutrals, while outnumbering the House of Montague.

Anaxagore – Silver
You are Abram, servant of the House of Montague (Town).
You are very poor, but you are proud to say that you belong to the House of Montague. You are pragmatic, and know how to look after yourself.
You start with 0 coins.
You earn 1 coin at the end of every afternoon phase.
You gain all items and money left at the houses of players who are nightkilled.
You can survive being nightkilled once.
Win clause: Eliminate the House of Escalus (mafia) and all hostile neutrals, while outnumbering the House of Capulet.

elysium5 - Olive
You are Benvolio Montague, cousin of Romeo Montague, and member of the House of Montague (Town).
You are a level-headed and compassionate young man, who cares deeply for his House. Given enough time, you’d recognise a family member anywhere, mask or not.
You start with 2 coins.
You earn 2 coins at the end of every afternoon phase.
You can #INVESTIGATE [mask colour] each night. If the player wearing that mask colour is outside, you will be told if they are a Montague or not.
Win clause: Eliminate the House of Escalus (mafia) and all hostile neutrals, while outnumbering the House of Capulet.

Each morning, the town crier will announce the following in the forum thread:
• Night kills
• Break ins
• Players running for election
• Painted messages
• Shop price/stock changes
• Number of players who have swapped masks
• Town:Mafia:Neutral count

Players who lose their house due to Oil become homeless. These players are therefore always outside at night, and also cannot carry two of the same item with them. Any actions that would be done to homeless players' houses are done to the homeless player (if applicable, e.g. using wine to #DISTRACT).
