hmmm..... let me think how to solve....

one possibility would be to simply add the small image as large. The small image isnt as stretched as the large one.

I also can try to cut some space later, thus making the overall image less stretched.... i ll try it out later

No, I would say let it stay as it is now and we'll hear from people what they say.
More and more play by smartphone also. Even on my own PC I've tried and it doesn't seem so bad in the end.
Let's try the experiment. (EDit: Bcoz I would not like much to reduce the image size)

It's my fault, the was a region with zero territories, I made a mistake when inputting the map and I noticed it only now.

note for myself: add the dotted connections between cypris and the the main land on the mini map. right now it looks as if its floating in the air.

i also must say the current map form fits very well with my Phone and tablet, although playing it on pc would make scrolling necesserial

sry, this is the correct one

I've been meaning to comment on this map for a long time. It's absolutely beautiful - a masterpiece for sure! The washed-out colours, the clothy texture, the faded illustrations and especially the flags in the non-playable areas, the text labels... all beautiful, very beautiful. Well done Dima! I also think it's great to have a historical map, and one covering such a famous event and time period. The gameplay is cleverly tied in to the historical theme, which I really love :)

As always, I have a few suggestions - take them or leave them! ^^ We will see if you or anyone else agrees with me I suppose :)
- In my opinion the minimap text is far too big. It is genuinely difficult to tell which region name, and crucially which region bonus belongs to each area on the minimap.
- Also regarding the minimap: the parentheses "(northern/southern fringe)" are not needed in my opinion - they just add clutter to the minimap space.
- Great Suljuk Empire should be written as "Seljuk".
- There is too much surplus text in general on the map. In my opinion, less is usually more when it comes to map text. I would consider removing "and their surroundings" from the subtitle, "Mini map &" from the minimal heading, and rephrasing the additional bonuses subtext to make it more concise. In fact, I would suggest adding a symbol (maybe a templar's cross) to Nicosia, Attalia, Marash, and Laodicea, and a different symbol (a Jerusalem cross?) to Famagusta, Tripoli, Jerusalem, and Damietta. Then replace the additional bonuses text with: "+3 for holding all [insert templar's cross symbol]s or all [insert Jerusalem cross symbol]s". This would greatly reduce excessive text, make the map look cleaner, and even add to the thematic feel.
- The map is very very tall. If after removing some text it is possible to remove some of the extra space in the south, maybe shifting the minimap up and/or removing the minimap header as well, I think it would help convince PC/tablet players to play on the map :)
- It is slightly unconventional to have a bridge inside a single territory as we see here with Damietta. For a minute I honestly thought you forgot a territory label! ^^ Maybe remove the bridge and place the territory circle so it spans the river there. Or leave the bridge there but just experiment with the circle placement.
- I think it might be slightly confusing which territory name is for which territory in certain spots. Does anyone else agree?
- Mediterranean in your subtitle should be capitalised :)

Let me know if you agree or disagree with these suggestions. Great map Dima!

Visually, it’s not quite my flavour — but I can still appreciate the artistry behind it. Now that I’ve noticed the direction you’re going for, the cloth texture is actually a pretty unique touch and I think it’s neat. The visuals don’t distract me, and I could definitely be won over.

My main concern is the technical execution.
The dimensions don’t align with our D12 requirements. For a small map, it feels unnecessarily large, which creates far too much scrolling for the user.

We’ve stuck to specific dimension recommendations for a reason — they work best with the site’s layout. If Aero were here, this would be a hard “No.” Personally, across 40+ maps, I’ve never deviated from those standards because they’re proven, and if it was going to be rejected anyway, I wouldn’t have wasted time going down that path (lol).

Since the current active map-making team is Virt, Dima, Bishop, and myself, I think we need to decide clearly: are we actually moving away from our established standards now?
My vote is No — but that’s just my vote. I’d rather address this early so we don’t sink time into a direction that doesn’t fit the site.

Hey guys, thanks for commenting and giving a feedback! Some things can be fixed quickly and easily, and some other things i need to think how to do it. Ill take some time to think and execute the proposals.

Regarding size: I would go against chainging the size/form, cuz it looks very well on enghtly divices such as mobile phone or tablet, but yes, on the pc you must scroll. But on wide maps you must also scroll if you are on the mobile phone and you dont need to scroll when you are on pc. So basicly it depends what divice you use.

But give me some time to play around and look whether/how to solve the task. I ll give an updated version of the map once i think i am done with the implementation.

SMALLER/CROSSES (3)

Alright, i needed to re-do the map in many parts to make the smaller version more or less good looking, cuz the size reduction destroyed the proportion of many elements of the image.
I implemented almost all feedback, except i think the terrotory name placements - i guess i havent changed them, but its not important. i can do it later, it doesnt take much time.

I personally like the original, cuz the playing area itself is lenghtly/stretched, so making the image less tall makes it look worse. Imo all proportions and spatial distribution of gaming/decorative elements are also better in the original. But i tried to chanhe the new version in a way that the proportions & spatial distribution of elements still looks good and the feedback points are also executed. And its good for Mobile phone view. And we also have the GOT map that has unusuall size, so maybe an exception could be made here aswell, but its not on me to decide.

There is also a version with crosses. I tired it, but i still it somehow look off. Check it out yourself. I think the map looks less "harmonious" with the scattered crosses.

Other: regarding visuals/colors: well i tried to pick a violet/blue color style, cuz, well, i think it looks good (i like cold colors like lilac, purple, pepermint, silver and maybe brown and i dont rly like warm colors, at least not now). It also gives the map a little unique looks and make it more to stand out from other maps. It also gives it some "character". If you always use the same/similar color combination, it get boring. I think having some artistic freedom in this regwrd isnt that bad.

regarding text: well, i see text/letter (size, color, form, opacity, writing style) as an important design part of the map. It aims to underline the character and style. I looked at the middle age manuscripts ant took some inspiration from them. I added this medieval archaic text (as often as i could lol) to give the map a little "maniscript & map" feeling (ofc with cold/lilac colors).
