The Dordogne region colour looks very similar to the neutral region, and the three colours around Oise, Aisne, and Paris may not stand out enough. It would probably be good to move some of the colours around to make sure there's sufficient contrast locally everywhere.

Otherwise a very stunning map. There's some interesting stuff going on with some regions too.

France map, nice! It screams French in it's overall look too. A few more Red, White & French-Blue regions and it will complete the look.

Jungle of Despair would need some major graphics changes if it was to have a chance of returning.
The problem with low altitude maps is how much more artistic detail and refinement is required not to make it look cheesy or messy.

From what it looks like on my screen, it seems almost pornographic.

And I noticed that atoll is missing, it's probably just been censored, I assume.

Departements are real, Regions not entirely...

I think it would be nice to have a map of France for 2 reasons:
  • it is where the game "La Conquête du Monde" (the conquest of the world) was born, later called "Risk" in the United States;
  • it would be fair with French users, because in ALL DominatingTwelve maps Corsica seems to be part of Italy, while actually belong to France.
But in general I think it's hard to turn France in a good game map.
I had some try at it, based on real regions and stored somewhere in my PC, but then the actual regions changed and I gave up.

@Hoodlum, as I have some drafts of several maps in my PC, I think I'm gonna start a "map lab" similar to yours, just to share ideas. Not intended to be competitor but only collaborative, with possible exchenges of ideas and opinions. Not ready yet though, because I'm following other stuff for now: discussions, tournaments...

Should Lot be part of the red region?

The river up north looks different than the one on the west. The one on the west almost blends with the ocean.

Does the West river really die/start at Loire? Normally they tend to start at a body of water or mountain, etc. According to Google it actually extends much further south.

Also, should be a line between Aveyron and Lozere.

I like it. While these might be the regions...can the 3 large ones in the bottom be broken up? It seems like no one will ever hold these.

I think the Loire river actually should end closer to the Lozere Ardeche border.

Wow cool, I can't wait to play the République Française / French Republic !

Allow me some criticism please.
1. The rivers are not so beautiful, and they should also continue outside the playing area as it was done in the past with the Brazil map.
2. Really I would eliminate all rivers except the Loire which is the largest river in France. Actually the river starts from Ardeche, but where the river springs it is really small so I don't see the need to add the initial part of the river.
3. I do like the mix of small and large regions and I really hope it stays. For once we would have a large map with several large regions. Certainly no one will conquer those regions, they would be recovery areas like Asia in World Classic.
4. I'm not a fan of having a map with 90 territories, if it was 91 I could have set my 7px13t games as I usually do in World Expanded map. To get the count to 91 I can suggest this change, which would also make the territory of Paris geographically more correct.
