Video Editing Softwares

I got a free program called blender but I cant figure out how to use an alpha channel. Windows Movie maker sucks and Premier/ Vegas are also expensive. Any Ideas?( My main focus for editing is action, I want alpha channels available so I can use "Action Essentials"( action fx effects).
