It works for me!

Once the new colour is fixed then also the minimap needs to be updated... well i think yiou know it

I didn't bother with the mini map as it is self explanatory for its regions which are now clearly associated by colour on the main map.
As it turned out, the land was all merged on the Source file, so it wasn't a 20 minute job, but I developed a new quick method of correcting just two territories. You'll notice I also tidied up the border lines there too.
The map is uploaded.

Better this way. I personally don't mind about the minimap accurateness, but I do think the text "Terrafen" is a tiny bit too bright. I don't know, it seems to stand out on a weird way.

@Matty, I haven't touched the text and Terrafen doesn't appear to stand out any more than Hagros. The map has every label with its own colour, tone and effect, which was never my intention to start playing with.

What people might notice though is the borders are now visible, refined and complete (not broken) and the region / territory colours are easier for new players to understand, which was my main intention to improve / change.

The problem when attention is called toward something on a map, is that it becomes a false beacon. I can look at any part of the map (which I had no part in) and see little things that stand out more than similar things around them. If I start making one part perfectly aesthetic, I will be compelled to do it to the whole map and may end up practically redrawing and fine tuning the whole map, which would then lose it's rough and ready hand drawn looking style that the creator intended and which has been no problem for anybody until now (apart from the colour choice at the border of the two regions).

That's probably it :)

Well, I see that Thorpe hasn't been on here since June last year. I hope he didn't give everyone the impression that he was the creator of this map. I created this map with the intention that it be enjoyed by whoever would like to play it. However, I believe credit should be given where it is due. Please, continue to enjoy it and if you'd like the original or if you'd like to see the creation process of the map then you can check it out here http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=17962

It's nice to meet you slylok.

Correct, Thorpe doesn't come here anymore.
PsymonStark and I were discussing the similarities (almost identical) of the Tor map with others we were coming across on the Internet and felt sure that it was not the creation of Thorpe.
Being as this is nothing to do we me, but I am the Head Cartographer here, I will check out your claim to the map creation in a minute and if authentic, I will of course add your D12 player name to the Map image as the creator.
It won't be prominent as I'm sure you'll understand, because that would be distracting to the aesthetics and the game.

Authorship at D12, is usually only given to a person who had "hands on" development of the D12 version of a map. If it transpires that no development was undertaken by Thorpe and that the map was utilised in it's original form, I will also remove him from the Authorship.

As you'll see in this thread, some editing of the map was done by me, in order to rectify a couple of things, but these were minor graphic enhancements.

Hi slylok. I have seen your thread before in the cartographers guild, and wanted to comment on the thread but couldn't at the time. I didn't even realize it was an original map, good job. I thought that maybe it was from a fantasy novel, like Game of Thrones, lord of the rings etc.

I have just read the whole development thread at the Cartographer's Guild and you are indeed the creator.
It appears that Thorpe used the whole map as it was, drew a thick outline on it, re-coloured the regions and moved some islands further away from the land in the north, requiring him to rubber-stamp the background to patch it up.

It is basically an exact copy of your original map and I don't know why he didn't just ask your permission to use it and post it here.

I will add your name to the map image tomorrow and overwrite it.
Any other problems or concerns, feel free to send me a Private Message, or post here.

I have added "Created by slylok" to the map image and amended Thorpe's signature to "Adapted by Papa Thorpe".

@slylok, as you say you are happy for others to use your map, would you be prepared to allow us to adapt your original source file to D12, where you would be named as the Primary Author along with whoever adapts the map from your file?
You will also have a signature (creative rights) on the map image.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your professionalism in the matter.

Feel free to modify and adapt it however you'd like, but unfortunately the source PSD file (along with many others) was lost :(. Never move encrypted files to a new system without getting the encryption keys first XD. I have no clue why they were encrypted to begin with, but lesson learned. So, all I have left of it are the static images that I uploaded to the cartographers guild.

I could recreate it from scratch or create an entirely new map or both. I love cartography and risk so if you like to collaborate let me know.

Looking back through my old inbox items from 2012, I did find a message from Thorpe requesting permission to use my map here and I did grant permission. Shouldn't he have cited where he got it from though? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

That is correct, there should have been acknowledgement in this thread and maybe even a creator's credit on the map.

I recently made a Westeros & Essos map with the permission of HBO, the map was totally redrawn by me as a game map and it was a close reproduction of the TV show map created for HBO. I therefore posted that I had based it on the HBO map with permission.

Response to your previous post to follow....
