I'd really prefer a big map without (air)ports. We already have the old westeros and new york.

If I would comment on the map referred by Spymoon, than I would first of all suggest to remove the airports completely and just add some long dashed sea routs, like these:
- Istanbul to Sinop
- Sinop to Rize
- Antalya to Adana

And then add some more bridges.

However, we are not using this map, this is just a proof that 81 territories fit quite well in Turkey.

So restart with an 81 territory map? The old map really had 77 territories cause I had to combine a few territories. I think I'll try it again but this time do a mixture of Sub-Regions and Provinces so that I can fit the territories better in the cramped areas and fill in the open spots. I was playing around with the rivers and I feel like it kind of ruins the game play on the small map because most of the rivers end up making Anatonlia into even more of a bottle-neck.

Uh oh! Don't add Northern Cyprus if you want to avoid polemics on the map!

BTW it's Anatolia, not Anatonlia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatolia)

Pulling off an 81 territory map will be hard.
However, if you succeed in doing it without ports it will be a map of which there is no other on this site - Africa comes close but has a weird gameplay and can use a graphical update. So really only world expended stays.
If you make it 40 territories or so, it will be just another of those mediium sized maps. So I'd say, why not try, you don't have much sea, so it should be possible.

The key for getting it done is picking a clear small font and doing thin borders. You get a lot of space this way.

I personally would not aim for 81 territories on such location, to me it will most likely feel cramped and forced into something it's not, like a blob with territories. Sorry. Having an alternative version of the Africa map seems like a great idea, there you have lots of land to experiment with compared to Turkey.

What do you guys think about the gameplay?

The first comment will not be on gameplay. I'm irritated that not all rivers reach the sea! I suggest you add bridges so that rivers reach the sea and gameplay is not changed.

For the most part I think it looks alright.

Don't particularly like those two central regions (Kirikkale and Adana). Especially the teal one. I know those are recovery positions, but 6 territory, 6 borders seems a bit much lol.

The eastern green and red regions (Tokat and Van) seem like they could do better with one less border each?

I think your connection lines are quite clever.

There are not so many defendable regsions. Some super regions, but they are hard to get. Right now I don't think this is that much fun.

Turkey is a hard map.

What if I added Kirikkale, Aksaray and Nigde to the yellow region and then turned Karaman and Mersin into a region. I could then split Mardin into two territories and call the eastern half Sirnak and change Sirnak and Sanliurfa into a separate region. I could also split Trabzon into two territories and call the western half Ordu and make Artvin and Trabzon into a region.

This would solve the problem of the Purple and Teal regions being impossible to defend and would add three very small regions as well as making the Light Green and Light Red regions easier to defend.

I would also like to know if there are any suggestions for doing the outline on GIMP because I still don't like how it looks. My territory outline doesn't look too bad but my region outline looks awful still.

@Madagascarter there is only one river that doesn't make it to the ocean or off the map and the only reason it doesn't go off the map was because I didn't feel like making a bridge from Gaziantep and Sanliurfa. I could however connect the river and make a bridge over it if necessary.

I think the problem you face is that the actual division of Turkey's regions is pretty small. There's only 7 of them and they don't really lend themselves to a risk map. So you kind of have to make it all up.

Your suggestions could work I think. Although you'd still have an abundance of somewhat hard to defend regions. Red and Green would still have 3 borders for 4 territories as well as blue. Which are okay, but they'd all be right next to each other, and I think you can do better. The new central region would have 4 borders for 5 territories.

Really as a deathmatch, whoever got the Istanbul/Mamara regions first would win most of the time. It's a super easy to defend region with probably high bonus and 3 borders.

Idk. I'd start again fresh, with the goal to first make good, semi-defensible regions. I'd limit your rivers too. There's nothing wrong with altering territory borders (somewhat) to make a region more playable. Like instead of having that central river along Samsun/Corum, extend Cankiri and Sinope borders to enclose Kastamonu. Or, since they're all the same geopolitical region, take out the river and make one region with Bolun, Cankiri, Corum, and Samsun as borders, remove the connection line at Sinope and have three internal territories. 7 territories, 4 borders is doable.

Just mix and match til things start looking better. Like turn Agri, Mus, Mardin, Van, and Hakkari into a region. 5 territories, 3 borders, semi-regionally accurate.

As it stands the only regions you have that play well are Kirklareli, Aydin, Bolun, and Diyarbakir.

I don't mean to be mean!!! I know you've already changed it from what you originally planned!

Okay. I'm going to just start going through all the possibilities for gameplay, I'll figure it out eventually.

So here's what I came up with for gameplay what do you guys think. The graphics still suck but I'm still learning the basics of GIMP.

I think I should slightly move or shrink the island that is in the way of the connection line, if I keep the connection line. I was also wondering if I should get rid of the island touching the mini map or if I should move the mini map so that it cover Iraq and Syria.

I'm not sure if the region names are that great but right now the regions are split into Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western and Central but I wasn't sure how to write that on the mini map without making a mess.

So the regions are:
West Marmara - Dark Red
Eastern Marmara - Light Blue
Northern Aegean - Dark Green
Southern Aegean - Pink
Central Aegean - Light Yellow
Mediterranean - Teal
Western Anatolia - Maroon
Central Anatolia - Orange
Eastern Anatolia - Red
Western Black Sea - Purple
Central Black Sea - Light Green
Eastern Black Sea - Blue
North Eastern Border - Dark Yellow
South Eastern Border - Dark Blue
