Let me talk differently for a moment if I may.
I will explain my reasoning before discussing details in long winded chat.
I do not give a hoot whether or not a player shows true rank or not, I have beaten many a General and lost to many a Basic, I do not speak for myself,
I speak for those with no voice!I don't read players reasons and motives without trying to see it from their point of view. I read it all, sometimes twice, to fully understand what they are saying and I only post to forum threads I either think I can make an improvement to the site with, that are relevant or that I created and have a duty to respond to.
Yes I understand all the personal reasons for not showing actual rank gained/maintained, but I don't agree with them. Unranked and Black rank badges are a tactic!
Flying under the radar! No matter what is reasoned! If you say "why does it matter if I don't show it?", the very statement shows that you have no allegance to either argument and so you would have to accept "why does it matter if you have to show it?"
Players realistically will use any available tool at their disposal to gain an advantage in a game. Some use fast connection and computer refresh rate as well as understanding and utilisation of the known querks & glitches to master Same Time games.
If the unranked/partially ranked players are honest, they don't only play with people who know them and their true rank and abilities, a percentage of their games would be with those that they have a tactical advantage over!!
Read where I mentioned new players joining a 2 player Same Time game with davidechko123, it's not rare at all, in fact the opposite. In my timezone, almost everytime I am looking to see which game I can join,
there it is and at least 1 player (alee1227) of the very few who read forums, posted that he almost didn't stay at D12 after stumbling into this a couple of times leaving him discouraged.
http://www.dominating12.com/forum/?cmd=topic&act=view&id=1746&page=3#post-23742Let's not just think of ourselves and who is right or wrong here or whatever your personal/implied reasons are, think how hiding rank and premium hurts the D12 site.
You will NOT hear from the players who come here and leave again feeling disappointed at the unwinnable games with players who won't answer you when you ask for their help, just beat you into the ground for all your noob points. You will NOT hear from the guys who get beat by high rankers showing Private, as they believe they were beaten by a fair game and no doubt think "if privates are this good and I've played 40 games, how many 1000's do I have to play to get that good and still be a low rank and how good then are those that are officers???".
The vast majority of new players don't know how to read forums, profiles, understand where everything is, know what it all means, know how it all works. It is so easy to get caught up in a "we already know everything about D12" mind set and not remember or understand the plight of the new guy, as we are familiar with everything!
If I was to say that I reckon that about 10% of the players who come here only play a few games and never come back, due to dismay, you would all say "rubbish", because of the "we already know everything about D12" mind set!
I have said it before and for some reason, I don't think anyone sees the true reality of it. How many players came here that were possible future Dominators, best friends, map makers, programmers & just plain good fair players, but didn't stay due to dismay / discouragement?! Let's try everything we can to hold onto them, not bully them, deceive them or ignore them!
If the standard procedure was originally created by 4mygod where rank was automatic, nobody would be any the wiser and there would neither be all this discussion about it nor all the unseen problems it causes.
