How about a rematch prompt for 1v1 games?  Or maybe all games i guess?

I know nothing about computers or software, so don't write me back telling me that it's the most complicated thing in the history of earth and i am a jerk for suggesting it!

Often annoying little people will get lucky! And i want to, need to, yearn to, long to, teach them a lesson. If a screen came up that let you check a box or something, it would be gratifying to see them weasle away not wanting to face you once more.

It has been proposed to have 1v1 games with automatic rematch options, where the exact spawn is recreated for the rematch, but with reversed colours and turn order, which allows the 2nd player to have the advantage start and a chance to even the score. It also allows the 1st player to show their worth and win from the underdog position of the next game.

When this was proposed, it was the very proposal that would encourage me to play 1v1 games.

The only downside I could see at the time was the points won/lost where high rankers would lose more points unless they could win both games, but realistically, the higher ranked player is usually the higher skilled player and should really win more rematches regardless of playing first.

This is in the suggestions & feedback forum somewhere.

 I like that idea,

but it makes it too complicated.  Just restarting the game would be better.

So if 'Player A' got 2 free bonuses on the drop and got to play first, you would be happy to restart the game and risk the same happening again, even though luck decided your fate on the 1st game? Surely having the equal and opposite luck would put things right?
Then in the games where no lucky drops occurred and skill was allowed to prevail, each would have the ability to try for 2 wins, but also, weaker or unskilled players will get to learn from the first experience and put the knowledge to practise with the same settings.

Otherwise, you might as well keep it as it is and request a rematch by PM.

BTW, when you create the game it will be labelled as a 1v1 Rematch Game, there is nothing complicated about it, as soon as someone wins, the board is reset in opposite start positions and off you go again.

i think part of the reason, the main reason, people want to play 1v1 live games, is for speed.

If you have to set up a new game, that takes time. Then one person is waiting while the other is setting it up.... Also, if you do set up a rematch game, other people could join.....

Having a quick rematch is about getting that quick fix.

If you re-do the same game a second time, the person who won will not want to play from a poor start. Especially if it's a stupid one, like someone getting africa and going first on world classic, or having australia going first with 3 neurtals as blockers...no one wants to play those whether having the advantage or disadvantage.

But you miss the point, 1v1 with rematch will not only be an additional choice to the standard 1v1 in game creation choices, but regardless of whether or not anybody would welcome the sort of example start you mentioned, if it happens in a normal 1v1, you are stuck with a no choice loss for 1 player, but because you had set it up as a 1v1 Rematch setting, you get to even the score.

Think of the fun in a lot of 1st games where you fight to win from a lucky spawn by your opponent, knowing that you will have the advantage in the next game (2 for 2).

Think of the speed of being able to play 2 games without setting up a 2nd game and waiting for a possible opponent to join.

You are adding a weird spin.

Just straight rematch. That's simple enough. the spawn is fun.

Oh, I think we had our wires crossed, I was telling you all about the proposed Game Creation settings of 1v1 with Rematch which will flip the start of the 2nd game as discussed above. It was this that made me think this was right up your alley.

I think you are after a Rematch button additional to it for normal games, where perhaps invites/prompts go out to the other player/s whilst you are playing and I guess where they can confirm or reject?

I imagine in a multiplayer game it might be difficult to get them all to accept!
But it might be handy for 2p, 3p & maybe some 4p games.

I just think a pure rematch button....

the game ends, a little window pops up and says:

Rematch? and you click yes, or a timer counts down from 5 and answers no automatically if you don't click yes.

 "teach people a lesson"  i was joking : )

It would have to be about 15 seconds, as the site only refreshes every 5 seconds, I think.

 You made world reduced? Cool.

How long does that take?  I dream of making an ancient world map, Assyria, Babylon, Egypt and the like....but i am not tech savvy....so maybe how long it took you, times 4......

There could be a pure rematch button that starts the game again with random teritorries/turn order that works for 2p games or multiplayer as badbug says

and there could be another type of game (for 2p games) where you play automatically 2 games instead of 1 with settings as virtuosity says (reversed terittories/turn order). If a player wins both games he gets the points, or else there is a tie and no points rewarded.
It would also be good to use in tournaments as it is more fair

It took just over 2 months, as it was my first and only map. I needed loads of help but eventually it was finished. The most important things to keep in mind are:
- Post a really rough image of what the map will look like in Map Suggestions before starting any work on it (you may be wasting your time on a logistically impossible map)
- Keep to the guidelines outlined in the DXII Guide to Mapmaking (the map will not be released until all guidelines have been met)
- Be prepared for a long process that will require a lot of patience!

By all means go for it, but know what you're getting into before you start. :)

[and to keep this thread on topic I will only reply to further map creation discussion via PM]
