I had an idea that seems really obvious now and it's really easy to implement too.

When you click on the territory you want to attack the 'step' bar says:
Click the "Attack" button to send your attack. [Attack]

Just change that to say:
Click the "Attack" button to send your attack. (Balanced Dice) [Attack]

The information you need to right next to the button you are clicking.

I think Matty doesn't like it showing up only at the end or when attacking, as it could impact planning an attack prior to that point. So he wants people to see it before they are in the act of attacking.

Oh yeah, forgot I read that.

What about a new div like the black bar on the bottom that stays at the top as you scroll? It could show Cards, Fortification and Dice and the bottom Gametype, Teams, Timer, Turn Order and Fog of War?

Or we could even get rid of the div that shows the game number and number of players and incorporate that into the new div I am suggesting to save scrolling. Then it would be Game number, number of players, cards, fortification, dice on the top.

@Vexer, did you see cbt's suggestion and my response. With small screens one already has to scroll so oftene, I prefer not to take up more space than we already have (remember, right now we already have a bar at the top and one at the bottom).

@cbt's dice picture (with the scale): that would suggest with normal dice either the defender or attacker has an advantage, and with balanced dice it's no longer the case, but that is not true (for as far as I know). The average result in attacker vs defender win is the same...

We could try to move the clock up and fit one more statistic in the bottom bar. Is that nescessary though? Is just showing an extra tab with info not enough?

Or can we not just show info on a bar that is visible on page load, but can be scrolled away (like the game number and number of players)?

You can also make a collapsable div to the sides. Basically where the player colours are now.

Whats the pre over tabs? Because I prefer to keep everything in as few places as possible.

To leave it in a tab, requires scrolling and clicking to access the information. Its not right in every (new) player's face.

How about moving some of the info that really doesn't need double checking to the game number and number of players bar. And moving the dice info to the bottom div.

Suggestion - moving Game Type and Turn Order to the game number bar.
Really, once you start playing and you see its, say, consecutive and caps, you don't need to keep reminding yourself and double checking it.

And maybe leaving their icons on the bottom div.

Ok, let's move Game Type, Teams, and Turn Order to the space where game number and number of players is and change the formatting to be spaced out similar to how it is on the bottom.

That will leave room to add two more things on the bottom in the future.

Top:
Game: 49797, Gametype: Deathmatch, Players: 3, Teams: Free For All, Turn Order: Consecutive

Bottom:
Cards: Fixed, Dice: Normal, < TIMER >, Fortification: Chained, Fog of War: No

That makes 5 things on top and 5 on the bottom.

Ok, since no one objected I went ahead and coded the change. You can take a look at my test game to see it:

@matty, I think it's still a good idea to be able to view the join game tab as a game settings tab after the game has started so you can see everything including whether or not the teams were random or chosen in case you don't remember and any future setting that doesn't need to be in the header or footer.

But I think it's better to have the info there outside of the tab for those who don't have the space for an extra tab on their screen and for quick reference.

This modified design is 3 pixels shorter overall plus I think I can actually move the map up a couple pixels so that the spacing from the top of the map to the grey line is that same as the spacing from the grey line to the bottom of the game settings text. Only slightly less scrolling but still an improvement.

Personally I think it looks nice.

What does everyone else think?

My first reactions were that I am pleased with all the info.

It looked 'dark'. (Maybe that's just the contrast with what I'm used to with that bar being white-ish. and that map being narrower than I'm used to.)

Will take some getting used to...

Maybe the game number can use a red color to match the timer. It also makes it quicker to read with all the pertinent game settings the same font and color, and the middle info separate.

Ok here is what it looks like on a standard width map:

I tried the red but it didn't look good enough to even show.

I got used to the change just within the time I was coding it and now I even like it better.

I'm sure everyone will want a slight mod to it here and there but keep in mind that the quicker we nail this down the quicker I can enable balanced dice. I can do today.

Lol..i only just realized that the present tab showed the amount of players in the game, for some reason I didn't notice it at all, all this time. When I get invites for a game, I enter thinking it's gonna start as if i was invited to a 2p game, so would open the live turn page in another window just to see how many players are required. Duh..I noticed it right away with the new tab. I think it will be easier for new players to have the info at the top..Got a few suprises when I started with these sametime games, wondering,,wth is goin on! ohh. it's sametime
People tend to scroll their eyes from the top down :)

Technically speaking it's perfect this way.

But somehow I think it looks horrible.
The light bar at the top in the other games look better, and because I'm kond of a fan of dark things I think the cause is the red bar at the top. Can you remove that one and see how it looks?

Otherwise just go for the light bar maybe, not sure.

Oh, and this black bar on the top looks like it's inset, isntead of outset, maybe add a shadow at the bottom.
