To react on Cireon's post: there is also a 3rd thing ranks count for: strategie.
Vexer seems to love using manipulation in his chat, but for some reason he dislikes ppl using manipulation in their ranks.
Some ppl manipulate newbies, by staying basic or private.
Others manipulate better players by ranking up after winning a big game (with pure luck of course, no skill involved, don't pay attention to me), but not their top rank, but one below, possibly tricking them into underestimating them.

Risk is about strategy, not only on the board, but also in the metagame, like chatting or ranking.

Which is, again, why I dislike automatic ranking.
I do not mind less token cost however (as i agree that it does require alot skill to get a high rank in 200 games, also luck, but mostly skill :))

There is great disparity between winning a 2 player game and an 8 player game. Or winning fog games, or caps. I was even a few dice rolls from obtaining Dominator once upon a time. But, with the current situation it would likely take me two months to get back to anywhere near that game.

The current system's flat skill rating is a bit flawed but could work for overall rank. However, it would be interesting to have a way to determine how "good" someone is based on the map, gametype, number of players, fog, etc. If you win 9/10 2 player fog games for example, you should have a high skill rating in 2 player fog games, but that should not bleed over (or if it does just a little) into 3 player non-fog game rating / skill calculation. You could then have a slider bar or numeric assigned to a player with "current game skill estimate" or something like that which would not be dependent upon your rank, but outcomes of similar setup games.

I think that points awarded should be based on skill level instead of on rank. I've noticed that I'll earn fewer points from beating a level 20 that hasn't purchased any ranks than I do beating a level 2 who buys ranks when they can.

What is their skill level and how many games they have played.

Compare apples to apples
95.5% of the time you kill a players cap before your 2nd turn in... you fail or die next
Vexer wrote:
@rasputin that is not how it works. It has nothing to do with whether or not they have actually purchased their rank. It is based off of how many points they have not what their skill level is. The number of points they have is not public information but can be guessed at based on how many points you win from them.

I wish I could trade in my tokens for rank. I have over 35,ooo tokens but I can't get pass Warrant Officer. Wish I won more than (roughly)30% of my games. Actually, I wish I could redeem my tokens for SOMETHING (wonder what I could fetch for them on e-bay - five bucks and they're yours) :)

I do not agree on that. Playing a lot doesn't necessarily mean you are a good player.

There is however 1 problem with hidden or misleading ranks matty, as soon as the game is over if you check in the log you can see how many points each player lost and that way you know who's rank is much lower than it could and perhaps should be.
There are quite a few players who try to hide there real " worth " but after 1 game you allready know there trying to pull the wool over your eyes.
That's why I always check the end of the game who got how many points especcialy if it's the 1st time I've played with this player.

Sure you can do that bluebird, and I used to do it too, but at best it's a rough estimate. Plus most players won't bother with this so not buying a rank will decieve 90%+ of players. If you really want to know, just check the d12 list.

These immortal words come to mind.

Don't need no stinking badges!

Now where is that confounded rank button, It says in FAQ that it is on top of page, but I no see none.

If you're looking to upgrade your rank, go to "upgrades" on the top menu and on the right you will see which ones you're able to purchase with your number of tokens and points.

Note that you lose tokens when purchasing a rank but you do not lose points.

Oops, I forgot that was in the FAQ. It's now been updated to say upgrades.
