due primarily to my lack of forethought, some of the game mechanics have been added/updated/changed/revised since post #1. here is a grouping of those hopefully for your quick reference when needed, so write down the page and post # so you can look back.

items can only be used during the night phase. the request for use should be placed the night you intend to use them. defensive items are automatic. if somebody steals an item during the night = that item becomes the property of the thief before actions are processed.

i may notify you if you got an item from the room as soon as all players have submitted their request for items - however, they will not be available for use until the end of the phase - which means that you can only request the use of an offensive item that you entered the night phase already in your possession. so if you enter a room w the revolver and bullet = you can request to attempt a kill on any player (does not have to be in the room with you). all request will be processed at the end of the phase in this order steals, then use of offensive items, then automatic application of defensive items, then addition of items from the room to your inventory. for example, if you decide to use the dagger and glove to attack somebody and somebody uses the rope and pulley to attack you = then your attack will be processed and you would be killed because you no longer have the dagger to cut the rope with. if however somebody stole your dagger = your request would be invalid but you would still have the glove. if they instead stole the glove, the attack would go forward without the glove and your name would be revealed in the forum as the player that attacked xxxx - even if the target had a vest and did not die and you would no longer have the dagger. so be sure and tell me ahead of time if you want to proceed w the attack if the glove is stolen. What happens to items when you become a ghost.?
the items stay with a player in case he gets to come back into the game. once (if) eliminated completely = his remaining items will be put back into a room randomly.

stealing an item from somebody does not count as one of your questions but you must first give his name and ask me if that is correct = q2 - is TLM's name robin? if i answer yes, then you will be told all items he has and you can steal one of them. from that point on in the game, whenever you are in a room w that player = i will tell you what items they have left (you do not have to use a question again to confirm their name). you can only steal from players in the room with you and you can only steal 1 item per phase. but you can lose more than 1 item per phase.

as you can likely tell - i did not think the mechanics of this game all the way through so i may alter some things as we go if needed - not to maintain balance but to make up for a mistake, to make it fair, or to move the game along. in that spirit, before it affects anyone, ghost can not enter a room 2 times in a row either

new info in case you need to plan for it
players can gift items to others anytime by PM to me. there will be no swapping by agreement in a chat room or in the forum. so if you want to swap, you will both have to send me a PM asking to gift an item to that player. it will be processed at the end of the phase. this option starts tomorrow ( day 4).
and 19/271 - if you gift an item to another player = they will be told who gave it to them unless you ask for it to be anonymous

fyi - there are no items 8, 9, 10, 11, or 14
they were considered if we had a larger group of players but omitted from this game. they do not affect or interact with any of the other items - which all do exist. it was an attempt to mimic the clue game weapons since there is rope, dagger, and revolver

Are gift and swap being used interchangeably? Or is it a swap/trade only? Can the trade be for 1 for 2 items? Can the trade include actions to balance the items value?
there is only gifting. there is no swapping technically. you can agree to swap but if the other player does not gift you his item = you've been had
on a related note - this might be a change in mechanics but i don't remember
if a player dies and becomes a ghost and has unused items = they will keep the items. the ghost can leave their items in a room they visit for the next visitor(s) to that room to have access to. if an item is left in a room - it will be in that room at the beginning of the next night phase. so, if the ghost says to leave it (them) in the room at the time he makes the room request (which is day) = it is available the next, immediate night phase. but if during the night while in that room = it will be there the next night. if the ghost does not leave an item and then gets eliminated from the game = the item(s) will be randomly placed in a room and made available.
the other option is for the ghost to hang on to them in hopes of a mod kill due to inactivity in which case, he would retain the items himself.
