Hi I was wondering how skill level was determined? I was looking around the site and I couldn't seem to find it anywhere. I was also wondering if there could be a more descriptive page on what points and tokens can do for you and how they are earned. I really enjoy the site and play for fun, but I would enjoy a page that showed these rankings. I know there is a Player Ranks section but I think it would be nice if it was sort-able so you could easily find people of similar skill or experience for game creation. It would also add more of a competitive edge to the site if you could see how your ranking moved up or down depending on performance.
I like the addition of reputation to the profile, that adds a good personal touch to the game to keep everything fair.

Thanks

Yeah, we really need someone to write up these topics for the FAQ. Unfortunately the administration spends too much time moderating instead of doing things like this.

Skill level is hard to explain and understand.

The site calculates the skill level for every player all at once. There are two steps. First it calculates a skill ratio for every player on the site. The ratio is the number of tallies they are 'up' divided by the number of tallies they are 'down'. Tallies refers to who is beating who and by how much on the players profile.

Then to calculate your skill level it multiplies the number of tallies you are up on a player by that players skill ratio. It adds this up for all the players you are beating.

Your skill level can increase when someone you are beating beats more players therefore increasing their skill ratio. Or it can go up when you beat a player with a positive skill ratio an additional time. Your score does not increase for beating a player who isn't beating anyone else and it will increase very little if you beat a player who is getting beat by more players than he is beating. In short, if you want your score to go up, win against players who are beating a lot of other players.

I'll let someone else tackle points and tokens.

Everyone starts with the same points, I think 1000. You then earn points by winning games. The winner gets all the points, so don't play for second place, as it does nothing for you.

You earn 20 tokens at a flat rate for every game you play. This number goes down for missed turns, though, so keep that in mind.

Similarly there are 20 points in each game up for grabs for every player in that game. So if there are 5 players, there are a total of 100 points wagered so to speak. The number of points lost by each player is a ratio of their overall rank points divided by the average of the game.

So if the room average is 1200 points, and you have 1800 points. You will lose (1800/1200)*20 or 30 points. Conversely if you have 1800 points and the room average is 2400 points, you will lose (1800/2400)*20 or 15 points.

NOTE: It doesn't matter who wins the game. A higher ranked player winning will not make you lose less points. Points are fixed based on the above ratio.

So how many do you win? In short if you figure out how many you lose, then 20*(number of players) - (points you would lose) = the number of points you win. Long version: You do the ratio of every player * 20 points and add them up. And that's how many you win.

For example: If the room average is 1200 points and you have 1800 and there are 5 players:
We already showed your loss would be 30 points. So your win would yield:
20*(5 players)-30(points lost) = 70 points won.
You could also take each player individually:
Player 1 = 600 points: Points lost would then be (600/1200)*20 = 10
Player 2 = 1200 points: Points lost would be (1200/1200)20 = 20
Player 3 = 1500 points: (1500/1200)*20 = 25
Player 4 = 900 points: (900/1200)*20 = 15
Sum of player points lost = 10+20+25+15 = 70

Either way you get to 70 points. So please no throwing games to the high ranking player in hopes of saving points. It doesn't work like that.
