@SethHrab .. You may be from the Netherlands, which is a country without mountains, but in the rest of the world rivers flow from mountains to the ocean. If a waterway connects two seas, then it is a canal, not a river. The Euphrates is a river, not a canal, check your source better please.

You're likely factually correct that the named Euphrates does not flow from sea to sea, however, it DOES connect from sea to sea via other rivers/lakes.. It's just simply easier to say "Euphrates" and have an understanding that a certain squiggly line on a hand drawn map represents that.

I've outlined the path on this image, I'm guessing that the actual named Euphrates begins/ends at the lake "A":

Regardless, would you mind responding to the notes above (except let's put the rivers to the side for now)? I'd like to carry through with the requested edits but want to be sure that they've satisfied your meaning from your previous posts.

PS - I'm from Pennsylvania, USA :)

  • Updated all region/map borders to 3, soft brush
  • Reduced all rivers in size, adjust the "flow" of some rivers to improve territory visibility, cleaned up bridge connections
  • Added some "shadow" to forest areas beneath title to attempt to help dissipate "floating" feel
  • Changed all sea connections to dashed line style
  • Reduced all territory borders to 1, soft brush
  • Updated map key to reflect actual map
  • Expanded some regions for better flow/clarity/connections
  • Adjusted territory bubbles/names for more clarity
  • Slightly changed map title

i remember having to re-draw lines dozens of times for my first maps. fussy cartographers! i ended up making a map nothing like i initially drew. wasn't my map anymore. but i did use it as a practice map to go through the process, no expectations. it made the cut though eventually. (East Indies)
you can draw the map however you want, it's your map. but the active cartographers are @The_Bishop and myself.
i've said my piece. good luck. i could be convinced at a later time, ill keep an eye on it's development

OK - I've read this over multiple times, not sure where to go next though. All outlines are within the suggested sizes, but you mention outlines? Could we communicate a little more clearly for the slow people (me)? Is there something specific that needs redrawn on the outlines? Sorry, I'm just not understanding.

If we're discussing rivers again (making an assumption based on previous posts), I'm happy to discuss.. but want to proceed cautiously as there are some major rivers here that warrant inclusion, akin to if you would draw a map of South America, you'd be silly not to include the Amazon - The Euphrates, The Tigris, The Indus, The Nile, The Amu Darya (Oxus)..

I've left these rivers (mostly) untouched in the below example, but highlighted extensions/lesser rivers that could be eliminated. Black, lettered rivers could be eliminated with essentially no impact. Red, number rivers could be eliminated with marginal impact.

If this is what you'd like to discuss regarding the map, could we utilize the method of letters/numbers to highlight what specifically you feel needs addressed?

i played around with your map to see whether i can solve the "too much rivers & too confusing" problem. i removed all rivers that dont belong to the playing area, basicly the ones that make the map look like worms eating moon surface. also removed some rivers/changed the flow of some rivers in the playing area. tried to get rid of everything that is too much and makes things look complocated, but i didnt really chanhed the territory connections at all. so gameplay remained the same.

the red line is an additional bridge that i drew.

also i suggest you to make the names of territories smaller, that way they dont cover too much playing area and make it look a bit cleaner and less "spammed". maybe ot looks better this way?

  • MOST river updates done per your suggestions, kept the river in Thrace, kept the border river extension of the Euphrates (between Black & Caspian Sea's, kept inner river of light red territory and just added bridges. Kept the length of the Nile because it feeds from Lake Victoria below.
  • Territory names reduced by 1 font size. I tried 2, it was too hard to read.
  • Fixed various territory/region/main outlines
  • Extended Sinope territory and Gaugamela territories, added bridge between. Hoping this helps alleviate some earlier "bottleneck" concerns.
  • Added additional bridge from Susa to Nisibis
  • Re-calculated region bonuses
  • Removed trees
  • Removed all lakes/lesser seas except those feeding rivers
  • Added more decorative art
  • Reduced title size and orientation

Yep, it took me a bit longer than I'd like to admit to figure out curved lines in Photoshop, but I'll get that corrected along with the dots in the area you mention. Thanks for the feedback!

A map you'd find interesting to play? Any other feedback?

Just read the whole thread. I had some mixed feelings about the map. Mostly positive. I thought lots of rivers, but that sounds like it's being worked on. A few borders, but I have bad eyesight. It sounds like if you take Dima's, Hoodlum's, and other suggestions. You made a good map. I enjoy that size a lot.
