I tried to join Caribbean Map this morning and i noticed some new changes. I need to pay 80 tokens for one single game or i must buy premium. This is just a game for me and its obvious that i won't pay for it and i know that you don't care. I just wonder, since you are mentioning all the time that there are alot of kids on this site, is it humanly to ask for money from the kids ? I know you don't ask it directly, but when you ask your members to pay 80 tokens for playing on a map which is besides world classic most playble map, then everyone is clear what it is about. I understand that your ambitions are increasing as number of members is growing and thats ok. But this isn't one and only risk site, there are few more and if you don't leave option to people, they will leave. I have 8 000 tokens and i am not having problem with that, i am speaking in the name of children, i really feel the need to protect them like you protect them from bad language. But in the case where money is involved, you abuse them in your favour.
ps : asslickers, get the f**k off!

Do you think it's fair that I have to pay money out of my own pocket each month just to keep this site up? Do you think it's fair that I have to spend hours upon hours to keep this site clean while you play games? Do you think it's fair that you get to play up to 5 games including a live game whilst other sites offer 4 free games and no live games for non paying members?

We are not expecting for children to pay and we don't enforce the thought of a premium account on to people, if we did then the site would not be like this. But what we want and hope for is people such as yourself to have a common sense and a bit of empathy for the people that run this site. You have clearly taken advantage of the things we offer and not once have you returned a favor to show your appreciation, instead you behave poorly and and write us this post on how we are only after children's money. If you are so worried about them, why don't you pay for premium so that they don't have to?

Next time, please get all the facts before writing such thing.

If you play this map once every four games you will even out tokens, no money needed at all, so no one is forced to do anything.

The reason why I liked this site so much when I started playing is that it had so much features for free players like me who didnt want to pay to just play risk.

Right now it has so much more features then there were back then, half of all the new features since then are for free. And the other half are partly paid with money, and partly paid with tokens (which you get for free).

So from my perspective this is a site that you can play perfectly well while not paying a single cent.
Of course, if you do, then the site is even more awesome, but it's really awesome already without.

You assume too much. The main purpose behind this was not money. This was pushed by me, the Head Cartographer, in order to encourage games to be played on a greater variety of maps. We have other small maps like Ancient Realm, Central America, Dominican Republic, Isthmus of Panama, Oregon Cities, and Saturn. It's hard to encourage map makers to make new maps when so many games are played on The Caribbean. We all want new maps and it's quite possible for someone to make a map that is better than The Caribbean.

I was quite surprised to see a player with so many tokens be the one to complain about this. You can play 133 games straight on the map before you run out of tokens. And if you want to play more then you will have to play a few games on other maps.

And your argument about children and money is flawed. Premium membership is cheap. It only costs about 50 cents a week. I'd pay my 6 year old son 50 cents a week just to clear off the dinner table every day. So for 20-30 minutes of work each week he can afford premium membership. I know this might not be true in other countries but there's not much I can do about that.

Or maybe there is something we can do about it. We could offer discounts to players from countries who's per capita income is less than $20,000 per year (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita ). But it would have to be by request and not automatic. The easiest way this would work would be for the player to buy the 9 dollar or 15 dollar option and then message Fendi to ask for the discount. If your IP address is from a country that has a low enough per capita income then she could double the length of your premium membership manually, giving you a 50% discount.

The bottom line is that the site costs money to run. About $180 dollars a month and Fendi shouldn't be the one to pay for your entertainment. The volunteers put in hours upon hours of work each week making new maps and game features with no compensation. You benefit from others hard work and yet you complain about something you get for free. Not only that but you are a nuisance who doesn't follow the site's language rules like everyone else.

People who take what others give freely and then complain that they didn't get exactly what they wanted disgust me. It reminds me of the time I bought dinner for a man who was begging for money on the street. I offered to buy him McDonald's because that's what I could afford. I actually didn't have a job at the time. But he had the nerve to ask me to buy him food from the more expensive Chinese restaurant. I wouldn't have even bought myself food there because it was too expensive. Why is this concept so easy to understand in real life but so hard for people to understand on the internet? It's probably because you don't know how much it costs to run a website and you have no clue how many hours of labor we have put into the site.

Vexer wrote:
Let me put it another way. Let's say you make $2.50 an hour. When you buy premium for $25 a year then you donate 10 hours of your labor to the site. That's a contribution of 0.2 hours a week. I donate on average about 10 hours every week working on maps, programming, assisting Fendi with the technical end of Admin work and writing forum posts. All of the staff donate hours upon hours each week finding cheaters and keeping the site clean. And you don't even contribute 0.2 hours. You are taking advantage of everyone else's labor. If this was a group project for school you would be that guy who didn't do any of the work but got an A grade anyway because your teammates did the work.

Don't be that guy. Everyone hates that guy.

Andjelicicic I also need to let you know, that the admins are very patient and take stuff really calm. You are very lucky not to get banned by just posting this forum.

Also I think 4myGod, Fendi, and Vexer and all the staff have done a great job making this site. I really appreciate what they have done here. I couldn't ask for anything else. This site has everything you need, different maps, different settings for risk, chat, and forums, I have never seen any other website like this. Did you know that some admins have to sacrifice some sleep to run this site to?

Lolz, they don't ban ppl for speaking their mind.

(Well, not unless the way they speak their mind is very offensive, vulgare, or sometihng like that. And even though Andje isn't exactly polite here, he won't get banned for that :) )

Forget that the site is free. Forget all of the upgrades and new options and all the new free maps that have been added and will be added in the future. You have exploited the children and destroyed all of their hopes and their dreams by making the Caribbean map premium. Soon you be opening Dominating12 sweatshops to force the children to make your shirts and shoes! Oh, the horror! Oh, the humanity!

Anyone who has played with andjelicicic is aware of his penchant for florid language. He is a good player, if not the most personable or patient.

I'm not surprised that Caribbean is most often played. It's a straight forward map with enough variation to make it interesting. I think it seems much smaller than other maps due, in part, to the ocean background and lack of connected non-playable land masses. So much so, that for quick games, it is often the first thought of many players, myself included. I will try to select some of the other maps to give them a fair chance as well. (Though right now anyway, I am partial to Caribbean Double and wish there were more maps with parallel play.)

I also appreciate the untold hours of work the staff here dedicate to keep this site accessible and entertaining for all who play. Though the majority of what you do is unseen, the results of your toil are much of what makes this site great. The many great players and the community here are the rest of what makes this an awesome place to play (andjelicicic not withstanding). I'd venture to guess most players will understand the reasoning behind the change and, though they may not say as much, are also grateful to have this site to enjoy.

Thank you all for all you do.

The only faulty logic with this move, is why wasn't repeated with the classic world map? That map is played just as much as the caribbean (or seems to be anyhow) and it DEFINITELY will be the most popular one now. So basically, it's just going to shunt all the people who used to play carib over to classic world, with a few of the smaller maps thrown in for flavor. The net effect won't be many more different maps played. Just instead of two very popular maps, you'll be down to one extremely popular map.

However, you are not being Forced to Pay, there's still tons of free maps and they're all pretty good (except for that evil basketball map).

Thank you Fendi and all the admins and people who DO contribute their own money and time to this site, because it's wonderful.
