I have been on this site for just over a month now, and the one thing I've noticed a lot is that it seems quite common for players to start games with region bonuses already. This especially happens quite frequently in 1v1 games, but I've seen it in bigger games as well (myself included). This makes the games strictly unfair, and even when I am on the lucky side of it; I HATE winning like that because it feels like I did not deserve the win or it was not a fair game.

Is there anything the site can do to eliminate this possibility entirely? This especially causes huge problems and unfair advantages in Fog Games, because you don't even know if a player starts with a bonus or not. Something really needs to be done about this. If a player starts with a bonus and also gets first turn, that is pretty much game over already in 1v1 most of the time. I can't even tell you all how much this has drove me absolute nuts and has costed me numbers of games that I am confident I really could have won otherwise. Sick and tired of it.

A 2 player game on the Texas map with both no bonusses at all at start, and no easy bonus to conquer in the first round? No.
There are ways to make it fairer (less chance of an unfair start, or let one of the players choose a side, but the other starts with the first turn, or to play two games, and reverse the start position & turn order).

That said, both me and Cireon haven't done much programming for d12 over the past year, so we'd need another volunteer programmer to make a feature like this.

I NEVER said no easy bonus to conquer in the first round. I said START with a BONUS before the game even starts. Easy bonuses to conquer are very normal and totally acceptable. IDK about Texas map as I don't play it often, but I've seen it a lot on world classic and world expanded maps. Easy to conquer bonuses are fine, but I mean start with a bonus at setup before the game even starts.

There are several maps where it's almost impossible to get a bonus for free on the drop:
Artic Circle, World Classic/Modified/Non-Classic, Falklands, Tor, Solar System, Balkan Peninsula, Eastern Asia, South Africa, Europe 1814 (advanced), San Francisco Bay, Victron, Tamriel, New York City and The Roman Empire (new one!).
Perhaps I forgot a few...

Well, the underlying question is: can we make 1v1 games feel more fair. If we fix the start without a bonus, then someone else will just ask that as the next question...

And they're kinda right ofc.
