I made few changes where possible according to Bishops proposal: put gray circles underneath the real game play circles. And made the connecting dots white/gray.

There are no layers, only one coherent picture, so i needed to find ways around to change the map.

Unfortunately there is no way to move the territoriy names around. I can only work with removinng/adding new connection dots and the gray circles. Could I move the names, i would have moved some of them a few mm so that they fit well with the dots and circles, but as I said i can only wirk with dots and circles.

If there is nobody who absolutely doesnt like it or is stricly against it, i would simply add it into system and see how players enjoy it.
Tell me, whether you wanna try this map out ot not.

Few visual changes can be done later along the way.

PS: The topic of the map is obviously the ways the american settlers used to get into the western part of america.

PS: Just a note:

I can solve the problematic things in terms of visual beauty that i marked with red circles. I would do it along the way.
Green circles mark good examples. I would try to make the distance between dots and circles more in line with the green oitlined examples, where basicly the distance is the same on both ends.

Nice job, it's getting cool..

Edit:
Yes @Dima, try to fix the circle proximities at your best.
And I think I would add 5 or 10% of chroma to the whole map, excluding the frame...
But I know you like gray melancholic maps, so do as you want. I have trust.

alright, i have fixed the distances, at least i think they look better now

will check out what chroma is and how it will look.

PS: Just added a dark version. I think darker looks even better.Take a look.

If one just checks the image it's not enough, in this case I think one has to try and play it. The feeling, when playing the map, it's nice imo. Kudos @Dima!
I don't know how you managed to manipulate the flat image so well. Perhaps you can still try to fix something... I mean those two black lines pointing at Oregon City and San Francisco looks a bit too short and not correctly oriented toward the towns. Plus, the size of the white dots doesn't look consistent all over the map, for example next to St. Joseph white dots looks clearly smaller, I can't understand why that, maybe it's a graphic choice?

The reason why the white dots differ each other in their intensity is the combination of reduced opacity of these dots and diverging colors of the regions the dots are drawn over. Both combined makes the dots slightly differ from each other in terms of intensity.

this is 100% opacity version of the dots:

this is 90%:

Yeah got it,.. it's an optical illusion due to the contrast with the background.
