Alternative to the world map.

The point of the map isn't holding the continents, it's holding the full continents and the 3 islands surrounding the continent. All players that hold a continent have more incentive to hold the 3 islands next to it (for both troop movement purposes and bonus) than taking over a second continent. This will cause players to fight over the islands. Fighting over the islands means players have less armies, which means cards will play a larger factor as well. If you're concerned with a long game, use increasing cards.

If the bonuses are higher, it will be unbalanced. Because of smaller continents, there will actually be more bonuses awarded compared to the world map. The bonuses are surprisingly close to what you'd see in the world map for equivalent situations, yet there is no Australia. Example: holding either Eonap or Frico and no islands that surround them you get 2 bonus for holding 4 territories just like if you held Australia or South America. Second example: holding either Tralia or Saljo and all 3 of their respective adjacent islands, you would get a 3 bonus for holding 6 territories just as if you had Africa.

So my guess is that we will take away the world map and replace it with this? By the way, I believe this map is done.

This is meant as an alternative to the world map if you like continents and about the same number of territories with the ability to "attack around the globe." But the game play is designed far differently, and many people love classics (or slight variations to not be the same as Hasbro) so I'm pretty sure admin / cartographers will keep the world map.

Before the map can be considered finished, I still have to apply finishing touches on the looks. I also still need to have an in depth discussion about the region bonuses with Vexer and/or Lucide, unless my explanation above was good enough for them. A few players have already expressed a desire to play capitals on the house map, so I want to set capitals on this map before implementing it as well.

The rainbow islands were replaced with grey in the next version you can see lower on the first page of this thread. I'd probably be done with the map by now, but Vexer managed to grab me to help him with a project he was working on.

I posted an update on the first post. Going to run this by Vexer and Lucide and if they think it's ready, it's ready.

If you don't see the update on the first post on the first page, just refresh the page.

In case you didn't notice, I persuaded Glanru to change the bonus for the green region to 6 from 5. He convinced me that the others should stay the same. I think it's done. I'll be busy getting my Saturn map on the site. So hopefully if Lucide thinks it's done, then he can start getting this one added.

It's been named Eld World by the way. And it won't go active until capitals are set up so look forward to being able to play capitals on this one right from the start. (still need caps for the house map -- it's tough to make it fair.)

I've already sent this to Vexer, but figured I'd put it here in case anyone wants to review it.

I talked this map over with a couple of people and decided that I don't like the water being blue, and I wanted it to be more map-like. I happened to make a texture that I liked while working on a different project and after adjusting the coloring a little I realized I could do a bit more to the map to make it look better. One thing led to another, and below is what I came up with.

Much more better now. Continents sharing territories is a unique feature of this map, which means quite different gameplay.. And also the territories look like as if they are parts of a single big land, the borders fit like puzzle pieces, with some minor differences. This adds to the aesthetic feeling.

Good job my friend!
