Yeah, I'm just about done with Sumopaint, I've just got to put the rest of the territory circles in. Tomorrow I'll probably start on Photoshop from school and put it in my Google Drive so I can get it up on my Chromebook at home.

Here is the example:

And here is the Photoshop layer for it, to give you ideas:

You can only download this one straight to Photoshop or save it to your computer.
I hope it helps?!

Wow JT I'm impressed! It's coming out great...!
One thing: was it called French Indochina all the way till the WWII? I don't think that's what it was called..... but I may be wrong.
I think the Japanese Empire should be a bit more defensable.....
Also, I don't think Mongolia was taken by Japan or Russia; I'm pretty sure they were neutral like Switzerland; once again, I may be wrong....
It's really looking great for a just started map.

(Btw there's already an Eastern Asia map, which means you will just have to work harder to make this one even more special than that ol' map! Also, keep the map centered more around the Pacific so it's not too much alike E.A map------ :)

Well, the French owned it prior to the Japanese taking it and that was the common Allied name for it throughout the war. Mongolia was only technically neutral...the Japanese installed a puppet monarch and he allowed the Japanese troops to stay. In April 1945, the Soviet Union dropped paratroopers into Mongolia and it was quickly taken. After the war, its possession was given back to China as a friendly gesture from the Soviets.
As for being focused on the Pacific islands more, that's why I'm using aeronautic's suggestion of a region consisting of most of the Japanese-held islands. Also, bonuses for the actual E.A. regions will be smaller than the ones for holding the Pacific islands.
Thanks for your input, urgul!

Soviets? Friendly? Hmmm..... thats odd.
I'll take your word for it, though.

You are certainly welcome,

Well, when the Japanese kicked out the Chinese, they pretty much ruined the Nationalist forces, allowing Mao's Communists an easy victory over the Nationalists in 1948. When that happened, the Soviets gave Mongolia back, basically saying, "Hey, you're a Communist country now and we are too! We should be friends! Here's an old territory of yours as an enticement!"
urgul wrote:
Ah
That makes sense
So...... It's still gonna be part of Japan? or China?
It would help if you could quickly name these regions.

(Or perhaps, you could divide up Mongolia....? This map looks small territory wise, and some of these chunks of land are huge!)

Best,

Yeah, maybe I could divide Mongolia into a Soviet half and a Japanese half. The Soviets'll have the north and the Japanese'll have the south! Thanks! Here's a slightly updated map complete with white space for minimap and preliminary connection lines: http://imgur.com/4dKPYaC
aeronautic's suggestion will be implemented tomorrow and I will delete the space in-between Tibet and India that was originally going to be Nepal and Bhutan now. I will also enlarge the other islands to enable the placement of territory circles when I get into Photoshop tomorrow.

UPDATE: Following Urgul's suggestion, I have divided Mongolia into northern and southern halves. I'll have a new picture when I enlarge the islands prior to switching to Photoshop.
Thanks,

UPDATE: Midway is smaller now, all white spaces other than minimap filled in: http://imgur.com/hjcyROD
I'll move to Photoshop later today and put in the territory circles and post another update when that's done, probably tomorrow as I'll only have 20 minutes today to get it started.

Hey aeronautic,
I'm having trouble putting the dark blue area into my updated map. Is there a way to take a layer from one PSD file and put it into another? I'm using CS6, by the way.
aeronautic wrote:
Yes, switch all other layers off and [Save As] GIF (with transparency).

Slight update using most of aeronautic's dark water region design. Thanks aeronautic for that!
I'll work on region borders by thickening the px's tomorrow in Sumopaint, and I'll do the minimap on Tuesday at school in Photoshop.
Thanks,
JT

Jtemple (and Aeronautic?), I really like the way this map is coming along! Once concern I have is with the big orange/yellow region - it may be too big to defend, especially since the map is not too large. Have you considered splitting it? Also, are the islands around Guam part of that region as well? I ask since they appear to be the same color.

Just wanted to say too that I would play this map despite the fact that we already have an east Asia map. I think the gameplay here will be quite different, and that is what matters most. Plus, you've kept it more centered around the Pacific, like Urgul suggested, which is good.
