One of the reasons that this site is so great is the wonderful variety of maps available. I was thinking, you guys could probably make a lot of money selling the maps to people. You could do two options, either a pdf or a laminated print that people could play on with their friends. I know some maps would not be well suited to this, but there are quite a few that I think would be popular to play with friends irl. What do you think?

personally, I think this would be a great idea It's a way to support the d12 without taking away from the site with micro-transactions. The thing I'd be worried about is copyright issues.

Well technically the site does not own the maps that were done by it's members, they hold the copyright.

Well I don't know a whole lot about copyrights, but i'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to get permissions from map creators.

I know a couple of folks that do custom printing. Toss the map makers a % of the profit. They wouldn't mind I'm sure.

Thanks for this idea lifeinpixels.
Maybe our maps are too small to play on them and if we change size then is not the same quality. You still can play on them but i dont think that maps will have "wow" - "cool" looking factor as Leedog says.

Buying Premium is enoungh i think.

What we really need is a way for members to buy premium as a gift for other players. That way if they really want to support the site they can keep giving and their friends will get a benefit as well.

Noxon, i agree with you for many maps, but as i said not all of them would be good. I'm thinking more of the smaller-type maps such as saturn or Caribbean.

I am afraid they would have to be remade on a bigger scale to be good enough to be sold. I don't think it is worth all the effort, as I think there are few people actually buying them.

I worked in Iraq for over a year as an imagery analyst. I had the privilege of printing 600 dpi images, as well as the disdain of printing 75 dpi images.

Please accept my honest opinion that anything short of 300 dpi maps would not be worth printing. That said, a reasonable amount of maps could be made for 300 dpi, however, I also agree that the best solution would be to buy premium if you intend to support the site.
