best player for the month

i think we should have TOP PLAYER of the month let it be shown who is active and participating in the d12 movement.....

I agree with Genghis. May be even have categories like best live games player , best long-term games player, best death match player, best capitals player, etc.

or what about most active player? most contributing player?

On topic: I am not sure if "best player" is actually still needed, because we have the "Dominating 12". There is also a ranking which shows all players.

I agree that the ranking system is in need of an update, but I think currently building in these kind of rankings is not a real priority and would require a lot of work and backend statistics tracking to work as well as we want it to work...

I don't really know how to do this.

Let me put it this way, if you guys give me a (satisfying) formula to calculate the player of the month, than I will implement it

maybe it should be a combination of things?
such as points, wins, games, activity, ect...

Need a formula

how about this:


to qualify player must have checked site 30 times on the month.
each check in must have an hour period in between to count. 

points are divided by 570 then round to nearest number.
plus 3 points per game won this month
minus 1 point per turn missed this month
1 point for every game finished this month
1 point for every 4 games started
bonus point for a forum comment/post
bonus point for checking in everyday of the month
bonus point for finishing 1 live game this month
tie breaker goes to person with more tokens

How about this, Brew Dog 1st, the rest doesn't matter.

How are other people on this?
I myself see a problem with the 30 times check for example, as a month sometimes has less than 30 days (februari ftw), and I would put checking once each day quite something above the minumum.
I personally think you should be able to be the best player of the month without playing live games.

Another problem is that activity is rewarded alot, and also stimulates people to (for example) spam the forum (3 forum posts are worth the same as a won game - with the number of fixed games I play that makes a HUGE difference).

Apart from that I don't know if we log the last check time from a player, so it's probably now so easy to check the hour period constraint.

matty the bonus point means you can earn a max on 1 extra point, you dont get a per forum comment/post, you get 1 point for making atleast 1 forum comment/post in the month. big difference 

I don't play live games because people always quit and I really don't care to win that way. That and time restraints. I rarely have 1.5 hours to play a game and I like more than 2 opponents. Just put me 1st and randomly choose the other 11, its a fool proof system.

What about somebody like me? Internet problems. I would love to play live games.  Who would keep track?

I agree with Thorpe and think this is unfair to those with internet problems or little spare time. I know many players here, including myself, that had to take some time off from playing because they got too busy.

But I do like the idea of praising those that play a lot. It gives them another reason to join games.
