possibly a necessary evil?

I have heard repeatedly that the site is tight on cash, and even that Fendi spends her hard earned money on keeping it alive. Also, most everyone who works on the site does so voluntarily. I'm not close to the site Admins, so maybe I'm misunderstanding what I'm reading in forums.

But if the site is tight on funding, then 1 possible solution may be banner ads.

Let me say first, I'm not at all a fan of banner ads. I actually hate them. But I understand they are a necessary evil for funding for sites that want to be free (or mostly free in the case of Dominating12).

I haven't seen any other discussion on this. I presume the admins have debated this among themselves and decided against it.

Do the admins care to share their pros/cons and why they haven't ventured down this road just yet?

The site is doing better financially since Cireon moved us to a more affordable server.

It would be nice to make more money so that a programmer could be hired.

We have considered banner ads but they would not be on the game page. We want the game page to be as accessible and easy to use as possible and ads would mess that up. If we were to have ads they could go everywhere but the game page which would mean less revenue since most of the page views are on the game page.

This would probably already be done if we had a programmer to do it. Since all the programmers are volunteers we only work on things that interest us. This is about as uninteresting as it gets. Since the site is not hurting like it used to (Fendi has not had to use her own money for awhile) we don't have the proper motivation to get it done.

I hope it doesn't get to the point where it's needed.
 thanks for the response.

Vexer,

This is the think I think about some time but I never write it out.
I think the ad can be on the game page when the game is not started yet (waiting for more players).

That is actually the time, when people usually chat and actually may click on the ads.

Once game is started, the ads will be gone (hidden).

You can make premium players do not have to see the ads as an incentive if you want.

My 2 cents.

That's a very good idea. I'd actually prefer to watch a video ad while waiting for a live game to start.

Adding banner ads onto the front page should be a very easy thing to do. The sites providing the ads give you a code to embed, so it should be as simple as aligning it to where you want it to be. I haven't done any programming in about 4-5 years, but I'm sure even I could do it in 5-10 minutes.

Vexer,

I think the ad can be on the game page when the game is not started yet (waiting for more players).

I feel like this wouldn't benefit all that much, and would just add annoying coding issues for the programmer

edit: Actually, if you embed it into the refresh box, it might not be that hard to do.

This idea however, I fully agree with.

Bonus points if you can get the ads to advertise war movies.

I'm pretty sure that can be arranged, depending on what service you're using.

I am neither, but I have some experience with programming and advertising, both internet and real world. I also just started talking to Fendi about some ideas to bring some new people to the site.

I was just posting my opinions on the viability of the matter.
