I discovered Risk while in my late teens and enjoyed playing it whenever and wherever I could. On the weekends I would usually have the game in the trunk of my car and would entice my cohorts into a game when they couldn’t come up with anything else to do. The games would be accompanied by plenty of beer or any other adult beverage of choice, a selection of Rock music and almost always a controlled substance of the herbal variety. Later, when I joined the Navy, I would facilitate games on board ship and although these games didn’t involve any laws being broken, I remember them with fondness. I look back, especially now more than ever, on my dominance in these games. I always seemed to be a target for those who had experience playing with me and I still usually come out the victor. One thing I’ve learned since discovering D12 after playing my last game of Risk well over 20 years ago is that the skill level is much greater when you play with a group of people who share your passion. I have been humbled and even humiliated at times by players on this site. I am not bothered by this; in fact I appreciate it because it makes me a better player for it. So, for all my opponents I have faced, no matter what the skill level, I thank you. Even those whose strategy I questioned either to myself or in chat or those who questioned mine in turn. Please comment or share something about the game.
