Retiring

Hi all, thank you for a roller coaster of emotion throughout the last year, it has had me thumping tables over lucky 6 defence repetitions and punching the air when my strategies worked, but all in all, it has been disheartening of late! Too many cheats getting through, too many bad moves by the player in front of the player in front of me and a whole mish-mash of out of my control situations! Yes I know that's risk, but it affects my mood and takes over my dreams and so I think it's time to bid you all farewell!
I will miss a lot of the people here, who I have never met, but have a lot of respect for.

I will play my long term games out (one which may take a year) and I will finish the competition as far as I can to the best of my abilities, but I won't be playing live anymore nor will I take on anymore long termers, so please don't invite me!

With just under 1000 points lost in a couple of weeks, there is no way back now, the heart has gone out of it. Trust me when I tell you, it wasn't just bad luck that took them..... I was targeted, conned and been in the wrong place time after time when the poor play occurred! Yes that bit was bad luck!

Please don't message me, my mind is made up. Thank you!

I was stuck at warrant officer for half a year. Then I lost 1000 points in a few days.

Don't give up because of your position! Keep at it; you'll pop back up soon I'm sure! But if you are serious about leaving, you'll be missed. Thanks for all the help you've been with the team tournament.

If you are retiring because you had a great row of bad luck then I don't know what to say, the luck turns, sometimes it's you, sometimes it's me...

If you are retiring because of the high percentage of ruined games, then don't do that. Things are changing. I'm in the first frontline for that. And staff is in our side and they are doing all they can do to solve this problem.

Personally I want the game-ruiners to be retiring not the good players! Otherwise we'll lose this battle!
Then I had great pleasure to play you live during the night and I will miss that.

By the way sometimes this game makes angry. It happened to me several times and I guess 99% of people here. Sometimes it's a wise decision to do a break. But don't say you are retiring please.

Just don't play live games with noobs. If you don't know the players, stay out. Live games are for fun. Just my advice, I hope you re-consider, if not, farewell.

I get what you are saying, I'm kinda in the same mood the last few weeks.
Too much frustration and not enough fun.
Besides the cheaters and the suicide-bunnies, trucebreakers, the teaming and the revenge-attackers who just enter games to piss you off way too many games that are ruined because a player defaults and reduces the game to " who can benefit the most from this grey zone that has appeared ".
Factor in the newbies who make dumb moves and the leeches who do nothing, just creating stalemates and waiting for anyone to make a move and then move in and you can't help but feel it's a big lottery most of the time.
If I had to count the % of games that did not have a suicide, revengeattacker, newbie idiot, leech, teaming, default or cheat i'd be hardpressed to find 10% of the games played where I did not encounter 1 or more of the above.
So what can you do?
Only enter games with minimum point requirements or a password so the newbies can't enter, well they are even worse.
I'm in 1 right now with all top players and nothing happens, nobody makes a move because everyone is watching everyone else, could not be more boring.
Here's the real kicker, in real life you would not play on a regular basis with most of the players here and if they pulled half the crap they pull here, you certainly would never play with them again.

This is bad. I know you claim your mind is made up, but c'mon, when Westchester said he was gonna quit, most of the replies were like 'adios' 'see ya', but the people say they want you to stay, and I'm a person, so yeah, I want you to stay. Also, I lost a lot of points. I thought I could make a lot of points by making a bunch of 1 v 1 games, and I lost almost every one. That cost me to go from like coproral to private first class. These points could be made back! Just make private long term games and invite only peeps you know! Moreover, you and Westchester are examples that the site needs to bring down a harsher fist on cheating, teaming, etc. First, I suggest that we actually make a team setting that you could make, so noobs and clueless players, whom have no idea that teaming isn't allowed, and they could just make a 'team' game. (The forum isn't enough, I never noticed the forums for like the first 3 months of my membership...)
Finally, and this is a selfish reason, you are a good map critic. You helped out with many maps these days. It would be sad for you to just leave and that's it.

I also asked to aeronautic to stay but I cannot avoid him to leave if it is his decision.
I know the feeling because I have the same problem.

At the first sight when I did read this message I thought that he was just a bit frustrated having bad luck or not being able to win so much as he guessed.
Now that I have a more clear vision of the situation I can state without any doubts that this site is widely infected by unclean players, even included the higher ranks, even staff members.

Since I am not surprised to know that the good players are leaving. Personally I am also not playing anymore. Not because I want to show my disapproval. Just because there are not the conditions for me to play.
I like games based on strategy. But now the whole site has been reduced to a competition based on friends and enemies like a social network game. I'm not interested in a competition like that, sorry.

It has been very pleasing to see some positive feedback here, thank you very much for your concern, this only goes to prove that there are people feeling the same about the game we love so much!

However, I don't believe I will be changing my mind any time soon!

After putting this thread on the forum, I have since got involved in Map Making and Graphic assistance to those who are happy to receive it and was considering offering assistance to many more that I see may require it, but I have decided to stop at the Italy map and maybe the Melee map which I feel I need to remake my first attempt in order to keep my pride intact and I WILL then be retiring from D12.
My last long term game completion is being expedited on my behalf and out of my control, so it looks like the time is drawing closer than I expected. This actually suits me, I can do a final burst for The_Bishop's Italia map creation and a real knowledgeable approach to the Melee map which, when remade, should require nothing but gameplay amendments before going to the staff. I can then leave it all in the capable hands of The_Bishop and A.N.Other graphic guy.
