I was playing a game the other day on the classic map when someone was making a (successful) run over the map. The 2nd to last player typed gg before he was defeated and I remarked that it wasn't over for me unless player 1 can turn in after defeating player 2 to which he replied that he had a wild card. The info didn't have a bearing on the match because he was never in danger of not getting defeated, but it got me to thinking about how the cards are distributed.

If you're in an eight player game on Caribbean (which has 26 territories), and all eight players have taken a card four times and not turned in (32 cards in total), are there in effect 6 cards that are repeated somewhere in players hands and has anyone ever gotten 2 identical cards?, or does the programme change them when you conquer someone who has the same card?, or am I just missing something really obvious?

All I can say is I've never gotten two identical cards.

If no cards are left in the "stack", you get a random card that is already in play. This means that you indeed can get identical cards, though this should be properly handled by the code.

Like a year ago in that case, when all cards are dealt but ppl want more cards, the game simply crashed (it happened on a 8p cap game on saturn).

Vexer fixed that bug now, but I'm not exactly sure how.

Well, yes I fixed it by doing what cireon described but that caused a new problem that wasn't discovered until recently. If a player had two of the same cards and needed to use both of those cards for a turn in it wouldn't work and the player would not be able to finish their turn. They would be stuck in the card turn in phase. I didn't have time to fully fix it at the time so I modified the database to not allow a player to have two of the same card. So currently what happens when you kill someone who has the same card as you is that you lose a card that you should have received. Obviously this isn't ideal and some work needs to be done here.

I recommend not playing such large games on such small maps until we have a real solution.

What about adding a Joker card or two... (or Fendi, the crazy old cat lady card?).

LOL does that even happen? 2 exactly of the same card? Never seen this before
The chance of that happening is incredibly small, but not completely absent.
