Has anyone missed 1 turn to escape from the 5 card turn in? Is that cheating? If its not I will start doing it? Has anyone thought of this or done this before?

I have seen and experienced people doing it... I would say its a grey area. Personally I don't do it.

I think it is unethical, so I have never done it and will never do so. It is the same as suiciding, which is not necessarily against the rules, but is just not nice to do it. It is choosing winning over fair and fun play.

@Cireon I think westchester is not talking about when the sets are high but when they are low. It's not the same (in a 6 players or more) to be the first or the last changing the cards, so some players skip their turn to have o more valuable set.

I don't do it, I rather pass one turn without getting a card in the first rounds, but I guess it's not agaisnt the rules.

I never do it but I have seen it. I agree with Cireon. I usually take my first turn or two placing trrops and not trying to conguer right away. That way I don't usaully have the first turn in and also it stops me from getting peeved when the dice are working against me:)

Yeah I mean when the card bonus is low, sometimes you have to get 5 cards to even have a set, you cannot always get a set with 3 or 4 cards.

Whatever the situation is, it's always better to not get a card when you have 4 cards, than to get a card and miss the next turn.

It's also not very polite to let other players wait for you.

Missing a turn in itself is against our sites rules. Doing so specifically to get around the 5 card turn in is not only against the sites rules but a blatant disrespect of the rest of the players in the game. Anyone experiencing this in a game should contact a Moderator or Admin as soon as possible so the players doing so can be dealt with. This will not be tolerated as a viable strategy in game.

And how exactly will you determine if a player missed his or her turn on purpose or because they really did miss their turn?
Do you have a cam in their home recording their every move?
Some players have a life, i'm not one of them because I've never missed a turn (must be a record I think).

It's the same problem as suiciding, a clever player will suicide in such a way that you can not prove they suicided.
What if you have 3 players left and each has 500+ armies.
If 1 player uses 350 of his or hers armies to attack 1 of the other players, the 1 player that was not attacked is almost garanteed to win.
But you would not call that a suicide, the really vindictive suicidebunnies are usually stupid enough to make it really obvious that they commited suicide.
They use all their availlable armies until they only have territories with 1 army on them.
The smart players commit suicide in such a way that they can and usually succesflully claim they made a tactical mistake.
Sorry to say it but as hard as you admins try there are players savy and cunning enough to slip through your nets.

The 5 card turn trick is another 1 of those occasions where you are powerless as admins.
The only thing that works against this is in the hands of the players themselves, when you've played a few times with players that use this trick you start to notice.
You then have 2 choices, alert other players ( this is rarely effective ) or decide if you want to play with this player and if you do, adapt your gameplan accordingly.
The other thing that works ( kind of ) on other sites ( sorry ) is player ratings where you can label players performance and gameplay.
If you are abackstabber, trucebreaker, suicidebunny or generaly crappy opponent your averange rating reveals this quite accurately after a while ( in the beginning the rating of 1 or 2 unreasonalbe players can skew your rating but after a while the averages even out and you can easily pick out the trolls and other a-holes).

Your point about the clever suiciders is why I started the suiciders thread. It gives us a chance to expose (with evedence, of course) these types of players. They can argue their defense but questionable repeat offenders will gradualyy be exposed if we call them out and we can choose to avoid them in the future.
