I've had a couple games recently with newer players who get excited to make it to "second place" in a game. I point out that second place is still a loss, but that's been met with negative responses and ego-rattling. Probably not much I can do about it, but it's frustrating, because behind that attitude means the player isn't playing to win, and therefore wrecks everyone else's strategy. Ugh.

Well, they are the last person to die.
Which means they are dead. It sucks to be dead, I guess that should say enough.

Can you say more?

but being the last loser really isn't second place..... sometimes it makes more sense to leave a particular player on the board a bit longer, while you deal with the bigger threat.

The correct mind set after you die is:

I SUCK!!!!! I NEED TO GET BETTER.

Not everyone that loses a risk game automatically sucks.

But yes, dying last is not better than dying elsewhere.
Not even in a fixed game.

This mindset is exactly why gambling addictions exist. Risk is something you win, or you don't. Period.

So seems there is a consensus here. I guess I brought this up because I'll play a game, someone will make a silly move that puts me (or a 4th player) out, I'll point out that they sabotaged their chances of winning, and I get the reply that "well I got second though so I'm better than you". Any tips on how to deal with this attitude?

Do not respond, and if you do... Just ask if they want tips?

Here is what I use:

"I also train players on "cap" games...All you do is ask."

Then I say:

GOOD HUNTING!!!

The last thing I do if they will not hear....

I YELL AT THEM!!! THEY CAN NOT HEAR ME CAUSE MY SCREEN IS COVERED IN SPIT!!! I never chat with walls...err...well...sometimes.

hey guys, i just noticed this.
when i quit pogo, i remember visiting this site to decide where to go next to quench my thirst of risk. according to this site, we are 'second place':

i dont believe that. we are first! when i went on wargear.net, the experience was horrible. It's too big. I like the smaller community here. What do you guys think?
