I used to stick solely to live games until I bought premium and took advantage of unlimited 24hr games while being able to play 2 live games at once. I'm pretty simple in my tastes and tend to stick to two maps that I am able to strategise effectively enough to get me a 30% winning average. #1 3player Caribbean, #2 4-9player World Classic. I tend to favour increasing cards coupled with capitals in #1 because games are over quicker. I play this one lots and its a good source of points (30-50)once you get a good strategy going.
In #2 I favour deathmatch but really enjoy caps too although in caps the drop is more important than in deathmatch because you have to make sure you dont block your capital in by taking all surrounding territories since your capital has the most troops on it, thus making it your primary attack weapon when you try to sweep the world.
In deathmatch, if you're lucky enough to be able to take and hold S.A or Australia in the first three turns, cool. If not then just build a force in one spot while collecting cards until turn-ins get higher. Too many people try to hold a continent and weaken themselves just for a bonus of 2-5 troops when a turn-in will give you more than that. If you get the right situation with card values and card numbers of other players its possible to sweep the world with a turn-in of 8-15. If not, someone else will do it but you only need 30-40% to level up at a good rate since you will be winning 100-200 points each time
If your goal is to level up i suggest buying premium and taking advantage of the extra games that come with it and hitting the 6-8player World Classic games with this strategy until you find a better way of gaining points
