I just follow the beta-predominance ranking: it is based on rating and how many games one plays in a month. If you get a high enough beta-predominance then you'll be invited to participate in the "Predators tournament". This is the name I actually gave to the tournament, to keep the assonance with "predominance".

Be sure to be in the D12 list of next month if you want to be "beta-pred' ranked". That means you have to take at least 5 turns in 5 different games during the first two weeks of December (assuming the next D12 list will be around the half of December).

Basically you need to play as many games as possible, including participating in other tournaments or play a lot of head-to-head's live (the easiest way to get many games). But also your rating is important to determine the parameter which I called beta-predominance and determines if you can participate in the Predators tournament.

In theory I would invite only the top 36 in beta-pred' ranking, but there are always people who refuse or didn't answer to my invite, so in practice I can invite down to the 50th or 60th player. From the very last list I get that more-or-less a 25,000-point predominance is required to join the tournament (calculated on a 2-month session) or even 30,000 points if more people will accept to participate...

Some approximated examples with numbers:
-- with a rating of 1500 you need to play around 200 games per month;
-- with a rating of 2000 you need to play around 112 games per month;
-- with a rating of 3000 you need to play around 50 games per month;
-- with a rating of 5000 you need to play around 18 games per month.

The mathematic formula is: 'rating' times 'the sqrt of the games played in the last session'.
Basically this led to a mix of best players and most active players.

Note: you have to play at least 5 games in the last 2 weeks before the D12 list is run, otherwise if you are not in that list I cannot calculate your beta-pred'.

Quite the difference as one is completing 1 game every 2 days (rounded) and the other is completing 1 game every 3.5 hours (rounded).

Would like to add that obviously there are only a few that have 5,000 rating. 

Maybe someday I can get back to playing 200 games a month. It's like a 4th job though if you want to really dedicate yourself to each game. :)
